NFTS Calendar Honors Synagogue

,Tom Borman Heads $105,000 Drive for
• Memorial Home of Jewish War Veterans

Samuel J. Rhodes of the Jew-
ish. War Veterans Memorial
Home Association announces
the official opening of the
campaign for $105,000 for the
Jewish War Veterans Living Me-
morial, to be erected on Davison
Avenue, between Holmur and
P e t o s k e y, by Lerner-Linden
Construction Co.
The actual construction costs,
landscaping, interior furnishings
and equipment will cost $175.000.
Towards this sum, $50,003 has
been secured from the sale of
land and $20,000 in cash and
pledges, leaving the balance of
$105,000 to be secured in the
current drive.
Tom Borman has been named
chairman of the campaign and
is assisted by the following
members of the board of the
JWV Memorial Home Associa-
tion:
Samuel J. Rhodes, president;
Bud Blum, secretary; Harold F.
Moran, treasurer; Nathan Ler-
ner, Sol Raikow, Norman L.
Berkley, Herbert Burdick, Jo-
seph L. Bale, Arlene Rhodes,
Sanford Rothman, Philip Cantor,
Herman Troy, Hyman Safran,
Mr. and Mrs. Leon Ginsburg
and Isadore Rosenberg. execu-
tive director. The following have
been receiving pledges and con-
tributions during the past two
months from Jewish War Vet-
eran members: Sol Levine, Irv-
ing Bogorod, Thomas Tannis,
Lillian Feld, Mr. and Mrs. David
Kay, Charles Reider and Manuel
Zak.
The building is being erected
in conjunction with the Jewish
Community Center, which will
'house the Dexter branch of the
Jewish Community C e n t e r.
Plans are being made for the
cornerstone laying to take place
in August. Leon Ginsburg is
chairman of the committee on

arrangements. Assisting Mr.
Ginsburg in planning the pro-
gram are Harold F. Moran" and
Joseph L. Bale.
The Memorial Room will
house biographical sketches
and pictures of the 300 Jewish
servicement from Michigan
who lost their lives in World
War IL
An attractive brochure, pre-
pared by Simons-Michelson Co.
and printed by Safran Printing
Co., will be distributed in the
Jewish c o m u n it y. Persons
wishing to contribute to speci-

Elect M. Silverenan

At a meeting of the Gold Star
Fathers of the Jewish War Vet-
erans held June 7 at the Jew-
ish Center, Meyer Silverman
was elected president and Leo
Grossman secretary.
Other officers are Samuel
Lieberman, vice president, and
Jack Geller, Bernard Pearl,
Samuel Boim, Sam Eserow, J.
Goldberg. J. Newmark, Isaac
Rosenthal and Philip Cantor,
board members.
The group was organized sev-
eral months ago to assist the
JWV in its project of construc-
tion of a memorial home hon-
oring the more than 300 Jewish
War dead in Michigan.

Governor Breaks
Ground for New
Carmel Building

Ground will be broken for the
new Carmel Hebrew School
building at 1 p. m. Sunday, June
26, on Wyoming near Thatcher
across from the new high school.
Gov . G. Mennen Williams will
break ground.
Sol B. Edelman, cnairman of
the ceremonies, and Sam Bonin,
president of the school, an-
nounce the following speakers:
Gov. Williams, Rabbi Moses
Lehrman, Rabbi Pinchos Katz,
Wm. Hordes, chairman of the
Jewish National Fund, and Rab-
bi I. A. Lawton, principal of the
school. The pupils of the school
will sing The Star Spangled
Banner, Hatikvah, and Hebrew
songs.
In case of inclement weather,
the ceremonies will be held at
the Beth Aaron Synagogue,
Wyoming at Thatcher. The pub-
lic is invited to attend.
