Odds and Ends
" An Arab policeman whose wife gave birth to a son on the
day Israel celebrated its First anniversary named his child Israel.
Many Christians are trying to enter Israel by posing as Jews.
Some have succeeded.
In May of 1948 there were 655,000 Jews in Israel. In May of
1949 there were 890,000.
As many as 100,000 Catholic pilgrims are expected to visit
Israel, next year in connection with the celebration of the "Holy
Year."
Israel's merchant marine now consists of 15 ships.
Should` Congress vote an investigation of our denazification
program in Germany many heads will fall. That is why the op-
position will leave no stone unturned to prevent such an eventu-
ality.
Germany is reeking with nazism and anti-Semitism. If the
American Military Government cared to reveal the figures they
would show that perhaps more than 50 percent of the denazifica-
tion judges are themselVes former Nazis. Some with unusually
close ties to the Nazi Party.
A former member of the Nazi Party in Palestine is threaten-
ing to sue the Israeli Government. He is Paul Avrello who resid-
ed in the German colony of Sarano near Tel Aviv. Avrello lives in
Dusseldorf, where he settled just before the outbreak of the war.
His planned law suit, he claims, wj.11 be based on the charge that
the seizure by Israel of Nazi property in the former German colony
is unlawful. , •
