Elects Leon Kay as President
Leon Kay; for nearly 20 years
an active leader in Zionist ranks
here, was elected president of
the Zionist Organization of De-
troit on May 19, at the annual
meeting at the Shaarey Kedek.
Now also serving as president
of the Detroit Technion Society,
the organization that supports
the activities of the Haifa
(Israel) Institute of Technology,
Mr. Kay has been active in
many movements in behalf of
Palestine and is considered one
of the country's outstanding
economic authorities on matters
affecting the Jewish State. He is

Council of Detroit.

At the time of his election, he
was in Israel and. is expected
back home early in June.

report for the nominating com-
mittee whose complete slate was
elected.
Elath, Eban to Speak
At ZOA's Convention
With an expected attendance
of 2,000 delegates and•alternates
representing close to 800 ZOA
Districts in 48 states, the 52nd
annual convention of the iZonist
Organization of America, to be
held in New York May 27-30 at
Hotel Statler, will devote a ma-
jor part of its proceedings to
discussion on the future pro-
gram of the ZOA.
Among the guest speakers will
be Eliahu Elath, Isareli Ambas-
sador to the United States, and
Aubrey Eban, Israeli represen-
tative to the United Nations.
A special session will be set
aside for a discussion of the re-
port drafted by a special com-
mittee headed by Federal Judge
Simon H. Rifkind of New York,
containing proposals for the fu-
ture program and constitution-
of the World Zionist Organiza-
tion, including a blueprint of
the relationship of Zionism to
the world Jewish community.

Jewish Community Center an-
nounces the 20th season of sum-
mer day camping, Camp Habo-
nim, which will be operated
Mondays through Fridays, July
5 to Aug. 26, at the Center. Boys
and girls between the ages of
5Y2 and 13 years are eligible.
Center membership is manda-
tory.
Registration begins Monday,
May 23. The minimum enroll-
ment is for a two-week session
and registration for the entire
season is being accepted. The
fee is $8.50 per week and where
transportation is request ed
there will be an additional $2.50
fee per week.
Miss Deena Zemil will be
camp supervisor.
The swimming pool is used
daily by Camp Habonim, along
with all the other facilities of
the, building. There are conduct-
ed trips to city parks, recreation
areas and other points of in-
terest.
Activities are arts and crafts,
music, dramatics, swimming in-
struction, trips, movies, games
and sports.

In his 'annual report, Morris
Jacobs, who retired as president
after serving three terms, re-
viewed the activities of the past .
year and described the accom-
plishments on the political front
in behalf of Israel, in the gath-
ering of material for the Jewish
State and in an expanded mem-
bership.
The newly-elected treasurer,
DaVid Zellman, who returrAd
from a visit to Israel with Mrs.
Zellman two weeks ago, ad-
dressed the meeting. Mr. Zell-
man told of Israel's craving for
peace and the determination of
the settlers to carry on the work
for Israel's redemption.
Snyder to Speak
On Labor Zionist
Philosophy May 27
W. Snyder, principal of the
Labor Zionist School will speak
on "Our Labor Zionist Philoso-
phy of Jewish Educaticin" at
8:30 p.m., May 27, at the Labor
Zionist Institute, 13722 Linwood.
Sponsored by the Farband
city committee, Snyder's talk
will be the feature' of a cultural
program devoted to Labor Zion-
ist schools.
Under-the chairmanship of M.
Goldoftas, the program also
will feature a speech by I. Zemel,
Farband district secretary, on
Medinat Yisrael and our School
System."
Readings will be presented by

representative. Community sing-
ing will be led by Louis Levine,
chairman of Histadrut Organiza-

ish Center Sunday Club pro-
gram. The Juniors raised $75 as
a gift to the children of a colony
in Israel.
