board of directors is scheduled
by Masada, Young Zionists of
America, for 8:30 p.m. Thurs-
day, May 19, at Shaarey Zedek.

pointed concertmaster of the
Wayne University Symphony
Orchestra by Valter Poole, its
conductor. Stasson has studied
with Joseph Fuchs, famous
violinist, at the Julliard School

of Music in New York.

Hechalutz Office Opens
In Detroit This Month

Hechalutz, Israel immigration
organization for young adults,
will open its offices in Detroit
this month. A founding seminar
is planned for May 20 and 21
at the Labor Zionist Institute.
The program of the seminar
includes at Oneg Shabbat at
8:30 p.m. 'Friday, workshops all
day Saturday and an evening
program Saturday. The Detroit
office also will serve Ann Arbor.
Any young people, 18 to 35,
wishing further information
about Hechalutz or the seminar
may call TO. 8-7384 or come to
the JNF office, 11816 Dexter, be-
tween 1 and 5 p.m. Monday,
Tuesday or Wednesday, or from
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday.

A large delegation of Detroit-
ers is expected - to attend the
10th anniversary conference of
the American Association for
Jewish Education.
Michael A. Stavitsky of - New-
ark, N. J., national president,
was given assurances of a local
delegatibn during his visit here
to appear before the Federation
budget committee to present the
needs for larger allocations for
the association. - Mr. Stavitsky
was guest at a luncheon given
at Olde Wayne Club on May 4
by Henry Meyers for local lead-
ers and educators. He outlined
the association's objectives and
told of services it renders com-
munities in planning curricula
and improvements in standards
of Jewish education.
Leading national youth and
educational organizations, bur-
eaus of education, teachers'
groups, Jewish school boards,
PTAs and kindred agencies will
be represented at the five-day
conference that will review Jew-
ish education over the past 10
years and consider the "pros-
pects and problems" for the
coming decade. This year's
meeting is sponsored jointly by
AAJE, the National Council for
Jewish Education and the Na-
tional Federation of Hebrew
Teachers.
Dr. Azriel Eisenberg, director
of the Philadelphia Council of
Jewish Education, is general
chairman of arrangements for
the meeting' and is assisted by
Dr. Horace M. Kallen, Louis
Ruffman and Simcha Rubin-
stein.
Dr. Earl , J. McGrath, recently
appointed U. S. Commissioner of
Education, heads a list of out-
standing American educators
who will appear at the annual
meeting.
