At a recent meeting of the
Northwest Branch of Young Is-
rael, located temporarily in
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah, Meyer
Weisenfeld and Meyer Eisenberg,
were elected resepectively presi-
dent and vice president of the
synagogue. Shimon Berris was
elected Shammos.
Rabbi Samuel H. Prero, direc-
tor of Young Israel, two weeks
ago inaugurated a series of lec-
tures on Pirke Aboth every Sat-
urday at 6 p.m. in room 1 of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah. The
community is invited to attend.
Veterans'Memorial
Services Set May 29

ture of the anniversary dinner
will be the presentation of the
cantata "What Is Torah," given
by a representative group of all
Young Israel youth groups, un-
der the musical direction of
Cantor Nathan T. Adler of
Wind_sor and the dramatic direc-
tion of Hillel L. Abrams, execu-
tive secretary of Young Israel.

cago) will meet in Milwaukee at
Congregation Emanu El Bne
Jeshurun Sunday and Monday,
May 28 and 30, to organize the
Great Lakes Council of the
Union of American Hebrew Con-
gregations, it was announced by
Dr. • Maur i c e N. Eisendrath,
president. Herman A. Mosher of
Milwaukee is general chairman
of the convention and Dr. Her-
bert I. Kallet of Temple Beth El,
Detroit, is chairman of the pro-
gram committee.
One hundred Jewish leaders
from the 26 congregations in
the Great Lakes area are ex-
pected to attend the meeting, at
which time • a program will be
evolved for the furtherance of
Reform Judaism in the Great
Lakes area.
S ervices in
Rabbi Morris Adler, depart-
ment chaplain of the Michigan
Jewish War Veterans, announces
that the annual memorial serv-
ices for Jewish war veterans
will take place at Machpelah
Cemetery at 2 p.m. Sunday, May
29.
Gold Star fathers, mothers,
wives and families are invited
to attend the services. A special
memorial service for Jewish war
dead will be held at Shaarey
Zedek June 4 as part of the
program of the annual JWV de-
partment convention.
MacCulloch Parents
Plan Carnival May 18
Mrs. George Victor has been
appointed general chairman of
the MacCulloch School -Fun
Night by Col. Morton Hack,
chairman of the Better Schools
Association Chapter at the
school.
Scheduled for May 18, the car-
nival will include a white ele-
phant sale, a bake sale, side-
shows, children's movies, enter-
tainment, games and refresh-
ments.
Proceeds will be devoted to-
wards purchase of school neces-
sities not provided by the Board
of Education.
Northwest Youth Group
To Have Wienie Roast
Northwest Youth Group, for
teen-agers, will meet at 7:45 p.m.
Thursday, May 19, at the North-
west Synagogue.
Plans for the May 28 wienie
roast will be announced, and
