The Israel family was celebrat-
ing Thanksgiving. Yes, in the
usual way, with a turkey and all
for Mrs. Israel had definitely pre-
pared a holiday meal. Little Jim
was firing away with questions,
as usual.
Jim came up with, "And are
our Jews in Palestine celebrating
today, too?"
His father explained that there
is no time for fancy celebrations
when the founding of a nation
is in progress. EVery moment
must be utilized to its best ad-
vantage. The American Pilgrim,.
he continued, followed that pat-
tern and worked for years to en-
joy that special Thanksgiving
harvest. Our brethren like the
Pilgrims are now working hard
so that some day they, too, may
enjoy the harvest of their home-
land, Israel.
"We must send help," he went
on, "in- every way possible, with
funds, machines and agricultural
equipment in order to give them
a start in their new way of life.' ,
The mother chimed in—"And
Jim they will li,ve in a democ-
racy as we do. But jtist as here
in America, where democracy
must be nourished, so it must
be in Palestine."
At this point, Mrs. Israel ex-
plained that there are always
certain forces within a nation
that tend to lead to other forms
of government: The Red scare
of Communism has brought all
the war-mongers out in the open
while Fascists go on their way,
unnoticed.. But our nation still
strives forward, nurtured by the
mass, who go all out for democ-
rary. Nourishment is necessary
for the growth of a nation, ma-
terially and spiritually. By that
I mean prosperity both econom-
ically and politically. Part of
this help will come froth us.
She then showed' how as a
member of Hadassah, Bnai Brith
and, various other sisterhoods she
has helped to plant trees, buy
land and send food to Europe
through CARE packages along
with various kinds of equipment
necessary in building a nation. -
"Only with the strength we
give them can they harvest their
own, in years to come. This is
the final responsibility which
rests with you, my son." .

New Operation for Palsy',
NEW YORK (JTA)—A new
surgical operation for Parkinson's
disease, also known as shaking
palsy, was described here this
week- by Dr. Judah Ebin, of the
neurological staff of Beth Israel
Hospital, at a meeting of the New
York Neurological Society. Dr.
Ebin, still in his thirties, is the
son of the late Mizrachi leader,
Rabbi Nachman H. Ebin.
Dr. Ebin reported that the new
surgery, which he devised, and
which has already been attempt-
ed on 11 victims of paralysis agi-
tans, had produced better results
than any other surgical procedure.
