Pearl-Hartman Nuptials
Solemnized at Beth El

At a beautiful candlelight
double-ring ceremony Sept. 17 in
the main auditorium of Temple
Beth El, Audrey Joyce Hartman,
A 10 week course in club
daughter of Mrs. Andrew Hart- leadership, sponsored by the
man of Ohio Ave., and the late League of Jewish Women's
Mr. Hartman, became the bride Organizations in cooperation with
Wayne University began last
Monday, at the Jewish Center.
Purpose of the program is to
familiarize interested club wo-
men in all phases of club leader-
ship, including parliamentary
procedure, committee reports,
publicity and programming.
Maryanna Pearse, of the speech
department, and Rita Hoban, of
the office of community relations,
are the instructors.
The course meets in two sec-
tions, Monday morning from 11
to 12, and Tuesday evenings from
7:30 to 9.

reservations, club women are
invited to contact Miss Hoban,

MRS. DONALD PEARL
of Donald J. Pearl, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Jack Pearl of Broad-
street Blvd.
The bride wore a gown of ice
blue slipper satin and her finger
tip veil of silk illusion fell from
a braided satin tiara of the same
shade. She carried a spray of
white orchids and stephanotis on
a mother of pearl prayer book.
The bride's brother, Burton C.
Hartman, gave his sister in
marriage.
Her matron-of-honor was Mrs.
Myron Shein, sister of the bride-
groom. Viola Shogan was maid-
of-honor. The bridesmaids were
Marilyn Patricia Hartman, sister
of the bride, Joan Eston, Eleanor
Heilbronner and Suzanne Sha-
pero.
Morton Pearl was his brother's
best man, and the ushers were
Myron Stein, Harvey Freeman,
Robert Kuttnauer and Alan Rein-
h eimer.
Following the ceremony, a
reception was held in the social
hall of the Temple. After a fort-
night honeymoon in New York
City, the newlyweds are residing
at 3040 W. Boston Blvd.

AJC Chapter Opens
Membership Campaign
At Sukkoth Meeting

Detroit Metropolitan Chapter
of the American Jewish Congress,
formerly known as the Detroit
Section, AJC, will sponsor a
Sukkoth festival at 8:30 p. m.
Wednesday; Oct. 20, at the Rose
Sittig Cohen Bldg.
The program is under the di-
rection of • the membership com-
mittee, of which John Hurtig is
chairman.. All members and
friends are invited to the pro-
gram, which will initiate the
chapte r's 1948-49 membership
drive.
The drive will continue in No-
vember with membership house
parties. Mrs. Sophie Fordon and
Mrs. Pauline Krauss are in charge
of the parties, which will be fol-
lowed by discussion groups, ar-
ranged by Mrs. Betty Leonard
and Mrs. Jeanette Ross.

Arlazaroff Branch Schedules gapluet

Arlazaroff Branch of the Jew-
ish National Workers' Alliance
will hold its annual banquet Sun-

Mrs. Herman Sharfman of To-
ledo, formerly Clara Pearlman
of Detroit, has had two of her
newest songs published. Sheet
music of her "When the Cotton
Blossoms Bloom in Georgia," and
"Please Don't Wake Me from
My Lovely Dream," will soon be
on sale.
Mrs. Sharfman's songs are
played regularly by Toledo or-
chestras at hotels, theaters, on the
air, and at private social events.
She is the daughter of Mrs.

lace. The second tier was edged
in a rosepointe applique. She
carried a Bible with orchids.
Her sister, Mrs. Bernard Siegel,
was matron of honor. Judy Kut-
zen was flower girl and Richard
Siegel carried the ring.
Mr. and Mrs. Fynke left for
Chicago for their honeymoon.

Mrs. Keller Selected
Sweetest Woman of '48

In recognition of her outstand-
ing civic service as chairman of
the TB and Health Society of
Wayne County, Mrs. Sam Keller,
1981 W. Six Mile Road, was
awarded the title of Detroit's
"Sweetest Woman" by the Sweet-
est Day Commit-
tee at a lunch-
eon at the Book-
Cadillac Hotel.

Farms, who re- Mrs. Keller
ceived the title during last year's
Sweetest Day activities for her
efforts in behalf of disabled vet-
erans at Percy Jones Hospital.
Mrs. Keller was selected for
the 1948 title as a result of her
selfless service in organizing the
TB and Health Society's, activ-
ities to raise funds for the aid of
tuberculosis patients. Much of _
Mrs. Keller's time is devoted to
the annual Christmas Seal drive.
Her activities on behalf- of TB
patients are termed by the Sweet-
est Day Committee as typifying
the spirit of Sweetest Day—"Re-
member to Make Someone
Happy!"
The Sweetest Woman award
marks preparations for the an-
nual observance of Sweetest Day
proclaimed by Mayor Eugene
Van Antwerp for Saturday, Oct.
