held its annual installation of of-
ficers Jan. 17. Rabbi Isaac Stoll-
man was principal speaker at the
ceremonies, and Cantor Hyman
Adler offered vocal selections, ac-
companied by Mrs. Bella Gold-
berg.
Sam Nelson was installed in the
office of president. He will be as-
sisted by Sam Oleshansky, vice-
president; Barney Citrin, record-
ing secretary; Harry E. Citrin,
treasurer; Nathan Wolok and Na-
than Geer, trustees.
A telegram urging that the
United States government im-
mediately lift the embargo on
arms to the Jews of Palestine
was sent to Secretary of State
Marshall by the membership of
the American Jewish Congress,
Detroit Division. Harry Nathan,
president of the Detroit Section,
and RIrs. Samuel Green, presi-
dent of the Women's Division,
signed the telegram.
The telegram pointed out that
between 800,000 and a million
Jews in the Middle East and
Africa, exclusive of Palestine,
are in the gravest danger of des-
truction and urged that: "The
arms embargo was supported by
those who are flagrantly and
violently challenging the author-
ity of the United Nations. Pal-
estine- is not a matter of concern
to the Jews alone but what is
at stake is the authority, effec-
tiveness and prestige of the. Unit-
ed Nations itself."
