A telegram urging that the United States government im- mediately lift the embargo on arms to the Jews of Palestine was sent to Secretary of State Marshall by the membership of the American Jewish Congress, Detroit Division. Harry Nathan, president of the Detroit Section, and RIrs. Samuel Green, presi- dent of the Women's Division, signed the telegram. The telegram pointed out that between 800,000 and a million Jews in the Middle East and Africa, exclusive of Palestine, are in the gravest danger of des- truction and urged that: "The arms embargo was supported by those who are flagrantly and violently challenging the author- ity of the United Nations. Pal- estine- is not a matter of concern to the Jews alone but what is at stake is the authority, effec- tiveness and prestige of the. Unit- ed Nations itself." Friday, January 23, 1948 Hebrew Resumed at Wayne University Classes in Hebrew are being resumed at Wayne University in the Spring semester which be- gins Wednesday, Feb. 11, it is announced by Louis Panush, in- structor. The courses offered in the Spring semester are Hebrew II and Hebrew 104. All qualified students are eligible whether or not they are enrolled in the Uni- versity. Hebrew II is a continuation of Hebrew I which was given last semester and is open to those who completed the first course suc- cessfully or to students who can pass an examination qualifying them. Hebrew 104 is the fourth semester course now being given for the first time. It will consist of readings of selections in He- brew literature from the earliest times to the Middle ages and the present day. It is open to those who have completed Hebrew 103 or who can qualify by exami- nation. Application for exami- nation should be made through Dr. Harold Basilius of Wayne University The policy of the University is to give the first and third Hebrew courses, numbered I and 103 re- spectively, in the Fall semester and the 2nd and the fourth, II and 104, in the Spring. Four courses thus are offered comprising two full years ofstudy in Hebrew. Registration at Wayne Uni- versity begins Jan. 31 and con- tinues until the opening of classes.
