"Less help" is merely a phrase until

terms: Less food, less shelter, less medicine, less tools. And more
suffering.
Since the date of "liberation" two years ago, we have kept the home-
less Jews of Europe alive—not only with food and shelter, but
with hope.
If we abandon them now, they are lost. This hour of crisis is the
test.- Not only for them—for us, too. Failing them, we fail our-
selves. Dooming them, are we too not doomed?
Everything — everything — now depends on the United Jewish
Appeal campaign for $170,000,000. (Of Detroit's $5,335,000 Al-
lied Jewish Campaign quota, $4,000,000 is for the United Jewish
Appeal.)
We must reach that goal if all the million and a half Jews of Europe
are to be fed and housed and retrained for useful lives in Palestine
or other hospitable lands.
