The evening will be utilized
to acquaint the community with
the progress made by the Coun-
cil of Orthodox Rabbis with the
assistance of the Merkaz in
strengthening religious observ-
ance in Detroit.
In the two years of its exist-
ence, the Merkaz has been ac-
tive in the fields of Taharas
Hamishpocha, philanthropy, Yes-
hivoth and education, Torah
study, Sabbath observance, over-
seas relief rehabilitation, Eretz
Israel work, and in assuring
Kashruth with the cooperation
of the Kosher Butchers' Ass'n
and catering establishments.
Merkaz helped in the establish-
ment of Penkel's Kosher Res-
taurant, Linwood at Taylor.
Throughout the winter import-
ant campaigns for the collection
of religious books and akticles
for overseas Jewry, and for the
Vaad Hatzalah, were conducted.

the occasion of the Purim masquerade the boys took occasion to
"picket" Temple Israel with a sign: "We Want a Temple by Next
