OCD Seeking 2,000
as Recreation Aides
Recruitment of 2,000 men and
women, 18 years of age and
older, as volunteers for the
city's summer program of rec-
reation, is the latest big task
undertaken by the Civilian De-
fense Volunteer Office, according
to Miss Shirley McDowell, its
director.
Detroit has 170 recreation
centers. The Department of
Parks and Recreation hopes to
provide two staff persons, a man
and a woman, for each. But
with 200 children using playlots
daily, and as many as 600 or
700 at larger playgrounds and
recreation centers, much volun-
teer assistance will be needed
both in the daytime and evening
hours.
June 21 is the official date of
opening the playgrounds and
the season will end on Aug 24.
