ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wineman of Hamilton Rd. have as
their guests their daughter, Mrs. Arthur. Q. Davis, and their son
and daughter-in-law, Lt. and Mrs. James Winernan., and their
small son, Jimmy.
Mrs. Mortimer H. Meyer of Suffolk Dr. has• returned from a
10-day visit in Cincinnati.
Mrs. Vernon Pope, her daughter, Anne; and her son, jimmy,
returned on Wednesday to their home. - in:, New York after a
few weeks' visit with Mrs. Pope's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mel-
ville S: Welt of Balmoral Dr.
Major Harry August has returned to his post at Fort
Benjamin Harrison, Ind., after a few days' leave spent with Mrs.
August and their children, Mary Ellen and Jimmy of Hunting-
ton Woods.
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert D. Robinson of Chicago Blvd. have
returned from a six weeks' stay in Colorado.
A dinner for 50 guests was given last Sunday in honor of the
engagement of Miss Marion Hoffman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
William Hoffman, to Sidney Z. Leib, son of Joseph Leib and the
late Adela Leib, at the Hoffman residence, 8812 LaSalle Blvd. Rabbi
M. J. Wohlgelernter officiated at the ceremony.
Miss Hoffman, who attended Wayne University, is active in
Zionist circles here. Mr. Leib, a Wayne University graduate, is
active in A. Z. A. and the Zionist Organization. Out-of-town guests
at the celebration included Ensign Maxwell M. Hoffman of Great
Lakes, Ill., brother of the bride-elect; 'Lt. Samuel Kaner of Camp
Hoan, Calif.; Joe Shapiro, Albert Sheppard and Nate Shapiro of
New York, uncles of the bride-elect. The wedding will take place
at the Shaarey Zedek on Nov. 14.
- Mrs. Walter Faught has returned to herhome in Traverse
City following a few days' visit with her mother, Mrs. D. J.
Epston, of Longwood Ave., and her sister, Miss Barbara Epston,
who left on Sept. 3Q for her post with the WACs in Des Moines;
Iowa.
Mrs. Oscar Rose of New York City is spending a few weeks
in the city visiting with friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Pritz of Cherrylawn Ave. spent the
holidays with their children, Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Pritz of
Broadstreet Blvd.
Mrs. Albert Kastan of Woodmere, • L. I., is the house guest of
Mrs. David Levy of Boston Blvd.
Cpl. Elliot 'N. Lipson has returned to his post at Camp Ellis,
after a few days' furlough spent with his family.
Complimenting their cousins, Mrs. Arthur Q. Davis, and Lt.
and Mrs. James Wineman, who are visiting in the city, Mr. and
Mrs. Eugene Arnfeld of Warrington Dr. have invited a group of
their friends to a dinner at the Great Lakes Club on Oct. 9.
Mrs. Albert Fuchs has come from Monroe, La., where her
husband, Cadet Fuchs, is stationed, to visit with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. David Wilkus of Boston Blvd. Her sister, Miss Mary
Wilkus, recently left for the Edgewood School in Greenwich, Conn.
Tech. Sgt. David S. Hershman has returned to his post at
Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., following a few days' furlough spent
with his parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. M. Hershman of Calvert Ave.

Mr. and Mrs. Saul Winkelman of St. Ignace, Mich., with
their daughters, Betty of Washington, D. C., and Ada, a student
at Michigan State College in Lansing, are visiting relatives in
the city.
Lt. Philip E. Lachman has returned to his post in Brooklyn,
N. Y., after a few days' leave spent with his parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Samuel Jospey of Indiana Ave.
• Lt. (j.g.) Walter Schmier. is spending a 10 ,.day leave from his
post in New Orleans, La., with his father, A. M. Schmier of
Chicago Blvd.
Miss Ruth C. Brotrrian, who has spent the summer with her
brother-in-law and sister, Mr.. and Mrs. Samuel Weisman of
Calvert Ave., left last Monday to 'spend a few weeks in Toronto
and New York City before returning to her home in Miami
Beach, Fla.
Miss Edith Langer, Red Cross Field worker stationed at Camp
Crowder. Mo., is visiting her parents in their home in Fullerton
Ave.
Oscar Boxman, Seaman II Class, has returned to his post at the
Great Lakes Naval Training Center following a 10-day leave spent
with Mrs. Boxman of Webb Ave.
Mrs. Milton H. London of 18637 Greenlawn Ave. has joined
her husband, Pvt. Milton H. London, who is connected with the
personnel division at Headquarters of Burns General Hospital,
Sante Fe, New Mexico. They are making their home there at 175
Federal Ave.
Pvt. Kenneth J. Morris has returned to his duties at United
States Military Academy at West Point, after spending a week
end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nate M. Lerner of 18637
Greenlawn Ave.
Miss Lois Jane Goodman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. J.
Goodman of Calvert Ave., has left for Columbus, 0., where she
matriculated in Ohio State University.
Miss Nettie Cohen of New York City is spending the holidays
with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred A. Allan
of 18243 Fairfield Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Deutch of Los Angeles, Calif., who
formerly made their home in Detroit, will leave for the West on
Oct. 11, after visiting here for a month. They plan to visit in
San Francisco before proceeding to their home in Los Angeles.
