Torah Month, Anniversary
NEW YORK (JPS)—The Jew-
at Center Sunday
ish Council for Russian War Re-
lief has undertaken a campaign
for $1,000,000 in 1943 following a
first anniversary co nf erence
here. Former Gov. Herbert H.
Lehman sent greetings to the
meeting and Samuel Levin, fa-
ther of Master Sergeant Meyer
Levin, said that his son "had not
died in vain."
Among speakers were James
N. Rosenberg, past chairman of
the National Council of the Joint
Distribution Committee, and Na-
than Straus, former administra-
tor of the United States Housing
Authority.
Louis Levine will serve as
Chairman, Herman Hoffman,
Chairman of the Executive Com-
mittee, and Mr. Rosenberg as
Chairman of the Honorary Ad-
visory Board.
Plea to World Jewry
KUIBYSHEV (JPS) —An ap-
peal addressed "to Jews The
World Over," urging them to in-
crease their efforts to destroy
"the worst enemy of mankind,
the exterminator of the Jewish
people," was adopted here at the
second plenum of the Jewish
Anti-Fascist Committee.
The appeal was signed by 50
prominent Jews, headed by Pro-
fessor Solomon Mikhoels, chair-
man, and Shakhno Epstein, Ex-
ecutive Secretary of the Commit-
tee, and including writers, scien-
tists, artists and war heroes dec-
orated by the government.
Expressing the joy of Soviet
Jewry at the "unprecedented vic-
tories of the Red Army over the
Fascist invaders" which are "de-
livering millions of people from
enslavement and extinction," the
appeal warns that "it would,
however, be criminal to give one-
self to self-appeasement and to
slacken . our efforts in the strug-
gle against the , German fascist
enslavers."

WILLIAM LONDON
year, Mr. London has under-
taken to raise a large percent-
age of the $50,000 quota by
soliciting the aid of the members
of the Zionist Organization of
Detroit.
Mr. London explained this
week that while he is not a
member of the labor branch of
the Zionist movement, he feels
that the workers' share in Pale-
stine's reconstruction must re-
ceive the support of all branches
of the movement.
"Labor Palestine gives us the
lifeblood of our movement by
giving us the pioneers and the
pioneering spirit, and we must
uphold the hands of those who
are creating and toiling for us
in Eretz Israel," Mr. London
stated. "While we are providing
the necessary funds for land
reclamation and immigration
through the Allied Jewish Cam-
paign and its beneficiaries, the
Jewish National Fund and the
United Palestine Appeal, the
Histadruth in Palestine serves
as the protector of the man-
power that does the creative
work there. Therefore we should
all support the movement which
makes the continuation of this
work possible."
While the Gewerkshaften
drive does not limit its appeal
to any single group in the city,
Mr. London intends to direct his
personal efforts to soliciting the
general Zionist membership, in
addition to others among his
friends.
Ittamar Ben Ovi, noted Pales-
tinian leader who is said to
have been the first Jewish child
in the Land of Israel for whom
Hebrew was his mother tongue,
will address meetings in two
Michigan cities.
On Tuesday evening, Mr. Ben
Avi will speak in Pontiac. De-
troiters are invited to attend
this lecture. Tickets are avail-
able from Mrs. Albert Feld-
stein, secretary of the Zionist

Schwartz says, was formed in
Detroit by Miss Jeanette Stein-

"Out of the humble Detroit be-
ginning has grown a dynamic

Schwartz added. "We are voicing
our firm determination to give
the best we have, all our energy
and funds, to help bring about a
final solution to the Jewish prob-
