Activities In The Detroit Congregations
YomKippurMusic 35,000 Expected
To Feature 'Cellist At City's Services
Holyday Services at;
Bnai Israel, Pontiac
Kippur services will be enhanced
this year at Beth El by the play-
ing of Kol Nidre by Bernard
Argiewicz, 'cellist of the Detroit
Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Argie-
wicz also will play Julius Chajes'
composition, "By the Rivers of
Babylon."
Services in the main auditor-
ium will be conducted by Dr. B.
Benedict Glazer. Music will be
provided by the Temple quartet
under the direction of Mr.
Chajes, with Jason Tickton at
the organ. New compositions,
arranged by Mr. Chajes and oth-
er well known composers, will
be heard.
The Yom Kippur services in
the Brown Memorial Chapel will
be conducted by Rabbi Herschel
Lymon. Music will be rendered
by the Chapel quartet with Ber-
nard Heiden at the organ.
Thc_. children's Yom Kippur
service will be held in the main
auditorium from 1 to 2 p. m. A
special service, written and print-
ed especially for this year, will
be read by students of the re-
ligious school. Rabbi Lymon will
preach the sermonette.
The Religious School of
Temple Beth El will open this
week end. The. Confirmation De-
partment (grades 7, 8, 9) will be-
gin its sessions Saturday morn-
ing, Sept. 19. Pre-kir.dergarten,
Kindergarten, the• primary de-
partment (grades 1, 2, 3), inter-
mediate (grades 4, 5, 6), and
the high school (grades 10. 11.
12) will open Sunday morning,
