Women's Council Drive for Members

A tea on Oct. 5, at which Miss Gertrude Pinsky,
national field director, will lead in a discussion of plans
i for the coming year, will culminate the annual drive
for members of the Detroit Section of National Council
lof Jewish Women.
Mrs. Leonard Weiner is president of the Detroit
Council, for- the current year. Her associate officers
are: Vice-presidents, Mesdames William Frank, Hershel
'Kreger and Harry B. Ke'idan; Mesdames Samuel Glo-
lower, Joseph Welt and Henry Wineman are in charge
of policy-making; Mrs. Frances Rosenblatt is chairman
of the finance committee; Mrs. Lewis Daniels heads
the budget committee; Mrs. Joseph Gaylord is Council
'treasurer.
Other _committee chairmen are: National defense,
Mrs. Samuel Hartman; round table discussion group,
Mrs. Leo Croll; contemporary Jewish affairs, Mrs. Fred
Ginsburg; legislative, Mrs. Louis Bass and Miss Eliza-

foreign born, Miss Henrietta Robinson; scholarship, Mrs.

Junior Council Takes Over Resale Shop

Women's Council's Wartime Activities

Wartime activities are taking precedence over the
National Council of Jewish Women's cultural and phil-
anthropic interests this year. Mrs. Samuel Hartman,
head of the national defense committee, has worked at
the O.C.D. on draft registration and sugar ration-
ing. Recently the committee sold tickets for Selfridge
Field Night.
Mrs. Oscar Zemon, chairman of the Community
cooperation committee, has begun work with the Safety
Bureau on making traffic safe for pedestrians.
The service-to-foreign-born committee continues
under the chairmanship of Miss Henrietta Robinson to
help the foreign-born citizens in Detroit to become
better Americans. Friendly visits are paid and assist-
ance is given in finding jobs, adjusting to American
life and taking out citizenship papers.

Rabbi Fram to Address Home Relief

Home Relief Society will resume the year's activi-
ties at a meeting at the Book-Cadillac Hotel at 8 p. m.
on Monday. Mrs. Maxwell Emmer, president, extends
an invitation to members and guests to attend this
meeting and to hear the address of Rabbi Leon Fram.
Members of the board and the ways and means com-
mittee of the society were entertained at a meeting
at the home of Mrs. Ben J. Rudin. Mrs. Irving Small
presided. Mrs. Ralph Levy and Mrs. Max Rosenfeld
reported on the dinner dance and the year book.
An appeal is made by the society for support of its
annual dinner-dance. Home Relief's major fund rais-
ing event, which will be held at the Book-Cadillac
Hotel on Sunday, Oct. 23. Reservations are being ac-
cepted by Mrs. Paul Garelick, TY. 5-7822, and Mrs.
Sam Arkin. HO. 2213.

U.S.O. parties were held by the Juniors every Sun-
day night this summel. For the winter season the girls
are planning larger parties.

Miss Helen Goodman, president of the Council Jun-
iors last year, has joined the WAACs.

House of Shelter Auxiliary Plans Party

The Ladies' Auxiliary of the House of Shelter is
resuming activities for the year.
The society, of which Mrs. Hyman Altman is presi-
dent, will sponsor its annual card party at 1:30 p. m.

Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Schiff R. Moss Catering Hall,
5028 Joy Road.
Mrs. Altman announced this week that in addition
to aiding the House of Shelter, the auxiliary is pro-
viding meals for Jewish men in prisons on Rosh
Hashanah.

Presentation of a set of new Universal Jewish En-

cyclopedia was made to the Pontiac City Library by
Jacob Kovinsky, Norman Buckner, Irving Steinman,
Harold S. Goldberg, Jerome S. Varron, Meyer Siman,
Arthur Rosenthal, Jack Wainger and Saul J. Birnkrant.
Officers and trustees of Congregation Shaar Hasho-
mayim of Windsor arranged a farewell gathering in
honor of Rabbi and Mrs. Nahum Schulman. at the
synagogue. last Saturday night. The Schulmans are
leaving for Minneapolis where Rabbi Schulman is as-
suming a new post this Rosh Hashanah.
