Ban on Drives lialtivy Music Center
for Israel Set

NEW YORK—(WNS)--Forma-
tion of a commitlee to put a stop
to "unautboriled and illegiti-
mate" fund raising drives for
Israel, so as to assure fund-rais-
ing priority to the United Jew-
ish Appeal, was announced here
by the Jewish Agency.
The announcement said the
government of Israel had pro-
hibited its officials from endors-
ing campaigns other than those
of the UJA, except with govern-
ment authorization.
The statement said the Jewish
Agency, which is "charged by
the government of Israel with
primary responsibility for the
administration of philanthropic
funds spent on the Israeli im-
migration and absorption pro-
gram, considers that the con-
fusion created by multiple cam-
paigns endangers the success of
the United Jewish Appeal.

Dentists'. Section
Spurs Campaign

Continuing their series of meet-
ings on behalf of the Allied Jew-
ish Campaign, the dentists section
met at a cocktail party at the
home of Dr. Abe Pearlman for
distribution of prospect slips. -
Members of the section, which
has achieved an average increase
over 1948 contributions of more
than 20 percent, are led by Dr.
Martin Naimark. Assisting are
Dr. Si Berent, Gerson Berris, Joe
Cabot, Ben Fader, Jack Lawson,
Herbert Lee, Frank Reisman and
Bernard Schmidt.

Study in Israel
Offered by ZOl)

A $2,500 scholarship for a year
of study in Israel will be awarded
to Michigan students for the years
1949-50, the Zionist Organization
of Detroit, announced.
Each fellowship will include
transportation to and from Israel,
tuition costs and maintenance.
Scholarship winners must be
sponsored by their local Zionist
districts. For information, call the
