Slate Award
The Detroit Women's Division
of the American Jewish Congress
will hold its annual award meet-
ing at 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 18,
at Masonic TeMple.
The principal speaker will be
Dr. J. L. Teller, director of the
office. of Jewish information of
the AJC. Dr. Teller was form-
erly diplomatic correspondent for
the Israeli United Nations dele-
gation. He was editor of the . Pal-
cor News Agency, official news
agency of the Jewish Agency for •
Palestine.
The winner of the annual
award will be determined by a
committee headed by George
Schermer, executive director of
the Mayor's interracial commit-
tee. The Women's Division gives
this award each year to the news-
paper man who makes the great-
est contribution in the field of
human relations through his arti-
cles.

Schedules Dinner
The PTA of the Beth Yehudah
schools has formulated plans for
the first annual parents' dinner
slated for June 12. Mesdames
Isadore Levin, Nathan Oleshim-
ski and Maurice Shackett are in
charge.
• Ideas for a school annual to be
published in January and June
were discussed at a recent meet-
ing. The ,PTA has already pur-
chased an incinerator, library and
two pianos for the schools, and
has provided fur the redecoration
of the gym and game room,
Sholem Aleichem
Maps Israel Talk
Harold Silver, director of the
Jewish Social Service Bureau of
Detroit, will be the guest speaker
at an Oneg Shabbat, Friday eve-
ning at the Sholem Aleichem
Institute, 3754 Monterey.
The Sholem Aleichem Institute
will celebrate the establishment
of the JeWish State. Silsier will
speak on "One Year Jewish
Statehood." Admission Is free.
Mrs. Jack Kaplan was elected
president of the Council of the
United Hebrew Schools PTA.

The Council is composed of
three delegates from each PTA
of the UllS, one from the faculty
of each school branch and one
from the school executive.
Purposes of the organization
are to cooperate with the schools
and to - develop a good relation-
ship between the parents, pupils
and faculty.
