HALLOWEEN
This weekend we'll ride along
with the spooks. Organizations
are busy putting the finishing
touches for their Halloween fes-
tivities.
Social, Inc., will let loose their
big plans ... the gals will come
dressed in blue jeans and the
males in casual attire. "Baggy
Barn Ball" is the title given to
the club's shindig on Sunday
evening, Nov. 2. Meet at Fran-
cis Gorov's abode, 17184 Prairie
and everyone will make the
jaunt to the rustic setting to-
gether.
A party will be staged by ,
the Miracle Mile Merchants on
Friday nite, Oct. 31 with Pres-
ident Sam Wein, conducting
the activities. The party will
take place on the big parking
lot just south of McNichols
and San Juan. Bill Ross, editor
of the Northwest Detroiter,
who has been promoting the
big event, let us know that
Mayor Jeffries and Miss De-
troit will be present.

Arthur Shutkin, executive di-
rector of the Jewish National
Fund for Michigan, told a meet-
ing of branch 5 of LZOA that
Mexican Jewry supports better
Hachsharet (training farms for
Palestine emigrants) than does
U.S. Jewry.
_Shutkin was the first of an
array of speakers LZOA 5 plans
to present at twice-monthly
meetings throughout the sea-
son, President Joe Epel an-
nounced. The noxt meeting will
be held Thursday at LZOA In-
stitute.
Reporting on his most recent
tour of Jewish communities in
central and South America
which ended last April, Shutkin
said there are 500,000 Jews
south of the border whose ma-
terial situation ranges from fair
to excellent.
The saddest position of such
