Institute Charted
at Shaarey Zedek

Shaarey Zedek will conduct
its second annual Institute of
Jewish Studies from Nov. 12 to
17. Prof. Abraham S. Halkin will
open the institute with a public
address on "Facing the Future."
Two study courses will be giv-
en in the evenings, Thursday,
Nov. 13 and Saturday, Nov. 15
and from 2:30 to 4:30 p. m. Sun-
day, Nov. 16. Dr. Leon J. Lie-
breich of Gratz College, Phila-
delphia, and Rabbi Henry Fisher
of Bnai Zion, Chicago, will be
the instructors.
Dr. Liebreich will give a course
on "The Prophet Jeremiah and
His Time" and Rabbi Fisher will
teach a course on "The Jewish
Way of Life."

Jewish Life Plans
1st, Annual Jubilee

The first annual jubilee of the
Anglo-Jewish monthly, Jewish
Life, will be celebrated at 7 p.m.
Sunday, Nov. 9, in the Jewish
Cultural Center.
Guest speaker, Moses Miller,
editor of the magazine, will re-
port on the UN's recommenda-
tions regarding Palestine.
Selections by the Jewish Folk
Chorus will be part of the pro-
gram. Players from the Contem-
porary Theater will entertain.
Gabriel Aiman is Detroit rep-
resentative of the publication.

Jr. Hadassah
Joins Masada
to Give Dance

Plans are completed for the
first fund-raising venture of the
year of Masada and Junior Ha-
dassah. It will be a dance to be
held Saturday, Nov. 15, at the
Old Colony Club, one block west
of the Fox Theater.

Music will be furnished by
Jackie Laine's orchestra. Zelda
Sacks and Bill Fitzerman head
the dance committee.
"An Eye-Witness Account of
the UN on Palestine" will be dis-
cussed by Philip Slomovitz at a
Junior Hadassah-Masada meet-
ing at 8 p. m. Thursday in the
Jewish Community Center. A
question period and dancing will
complete the session.
The hiking committee, organ-
ized by Murray Selborn and
Beverly Goldfine, has announced
that the first hike and wienie
roast will take place Sunday,
Nov. 9. For information call

Ruth Newman and Lawrence
Fleischman, co-chairmen of the
membership committee, said all
young people, ages 18-35, are in-
vited to join the group.
A tea for young women will
take place at 2 p. m. Sunday in
the home of Mrs. Theodore Le-
vin, 8611 LaSalle boulevard.

LONDON (JTA)—Two fascist
meetings were broken up last
weekend by angry antifascist
crowds. A number of persons
were arrested.
The Duke of Bedford, pro-
fascist leader, addressed a meet-
ing in Westminster of the "Brit-
ish People's Party." The rally
was under the chairmanship of
John Becket, who was detained
during the war as a dangerous
fascist. The meeting broke up
when a stench' bomb was thrown
at the duke by a man in the
audience.
A meeting of the British
League of Ex-Servicemen, ad-
dressed by Jeffrey Hamm, its'po-
litical leader, was heckled con-
stantly. Fighting broke out, re-
sulting in several arrests.
Dr. Joseph McCambridge, con-
victed of breaking the window
of a Jewish-owned shop was 41n-
ed $400 and costs and received
a suspended two-year sentence.
Ile was placed on parole for that
period. A second charge of arson
was dismissed.
