made to the war effort. A spe-
c ia l prayer for Stalin was held
during the services. Many of the
w orshippers were given leave by
their factories and offices to at-
tend the Passover services in the
synagogue.
In his Passover sermon, Cho-
brutsky reviewed the history of
Jewish tribulations from the days
of Pharaoh to Hitler and con-
cluded by saying: "The Red Sea
saved our ancestors from Phar-
aohs hands, and the Red Army
saved us from Hitler's hands."

GENERAL

(Continued from Page 1)
In emphasizing the moral im-
commanders. He had gone to

perative of a world security or-
ganization as the first of 10
points on which agencies of the
three religious bodies are agreed,
the clergymen hold that "the
sacrifices and hardships of this
war and the need of mankind
for an organized peace make it
imperative that the San Fran-
cisco Conference succeed and the
general security organization be
established."
The 10 recommendations for
the United Nations Charter are:
Need for organization, a pre-
amble to affirm subjection of all
states to the moral law, even-
tual universal membership, codi-
fication and development of in-
ternational law.
More explicit provision for re-
vising treaties and other agree-
ments, larger participation of
lesser powers in policy-shaping,
clearer procedures for mutual
disarmament, denying to any na-
tion power to veto judgment in
a dispute covered by internation-
al law.
Formulation of an internation-
al bill of human rights and es-
tablishment of impleme nting
agencies, trusteeship commission
for dependent peoples.

the area to direct the division's
fight for an important road
junction. He had started back
in a jeep with his side to try
to find another of his task
forces. He turned a curve and
ran into a German Tiger tank
which had infiltrated into the
American lines.
As he stood with his hands
over his head, the German tank
trooper, holding a machine pis-
tol, unloosed a torrent of words.
Apparently the General thought
the German meant him to sur-
render his arms. He took his
hands down to lift the holster,
and the German fired. The Gen-
eral's body was found where he
was slain.
The Jewish general was born
of immigrant Jewish parents in
Middletown, Conn.
The General, who was only
45, rose from a Private in the
Colo
rado National Guard. He en-
listed in the Cavalry in 1916.
He served in the First World
War as a Lieutenant and was
decorated. He was commission-
ed a Second Lieutenant in the
Regular Army in 1920. He was
a Lieutenant Colonel at the be-
ginning of this war.
He went overseas in January,
1942, as Chief of Staff of the
Second Armored Division and
served in the North African
campaign. He was made a Brig-
adier General in June, 1943.

In Denver, General Rose's
father, Rabbi Samuel Rose, 89,
called upon his religious faith
in the hope that the death of his
son would be accepted by Jeho-
vah as a sacrifice that will save
the lives of others.
"It is well that, since this had
to be, it happened in the week
of Passover," he said.
