PONTIAC NOTES
of Detroit, Michigan
One of the outstanding exam-
ples of the Jewish contribution
to national patriotism occurred
Sunday, March 21, with the pres-
entation of an American Flag
by the State Department of Mich-
igan of the Jewish War Veterans,
at Fort Custer, with the co-
operation of the Jewish Welfare
Board of Battle Creek, Samuel
Kurzon, director.
Starting at 11 a. m. at the
parade grounds of the 1616th
service unit, the Army personnel
stood in platoon formation, head-
ed by Col. Stenjem, commander
of the service unit, to receive
the flag from State Commander
Samuel J. Rhodes of the Jewish
War Veterans.
Present at the ceremony was
Col. Shank, post commander at
Fort Custer.
Commander Rhodes' presenta-
tion speech was so impressive
that it is planned to have copies
of it distributed to service men
at Fort Custer as a stimulant
to morale.
Following the presentation was
an impressive ceremony and re-
view staged by the 1616th Serv-
ice Unit. Much color was added
to the ceremony by the Army
bugle corps. A large attendance
of Jewish War Veterans was
present, including members from
Flint and Wyandotte.
Rabbi Eric Friedland conducted
the Friday evening services at
Temple Beth Jacob and he in-
terpreted Norman Angell's recent
book "Let the People Know."
