Beer and Wine to take out and served

A man may work hard all
week, perhaps, at some disagree-
able job, but on the Sabbath he
can forget his week-day worries
and turn his mind to other things.
This is the time for visits be-
tween friends and neighbor's and
for family gatherings. Sorrow and
worry are forgotten on the Sab-
bath and joy rather than sadness
should reign over the household.
It is fitting that amid the hurry
and bustle of everyday life, one
day should be set aside for pray-
er and thanksgiving to God. This
is the time to reflect on the
week's happenings and to regain
one's perspective and sense of
values. This is perhaps one of
the most important aspects of the
Sabbath. For it should leave one
refreshed and strengthened for
the week to come.

"Thou shalt love him as thyself."
God would forgive him for the
sake of brotherly love.
Yet when David had gone a dis-
tance with the ten dollar bill his
conscience overtook hitp and spoke
sternly: "Yes, David, but broth-
erly love should go both ways.
Ffty-fifty, David! The brotherly
love of Samuel doubtless will for-
give you, but your own brotherly
love should have told you to take
only half the ten dollars and leave
the other half with your brother
Samuel. Brotherly love should al-
ways be fifty-fifty, David."
David changed the ten dollar
bill to a pair of fives, hurried back
to Samuel's house and placed a

EDWIN LEWINSON

Every Friday night just about
sundown I say my evening pray-
ers. On most Saturday mornings
I go to the Synagogue. For the
rest of the day I try to obey the
thirty-nine articles.
I don't always. In fact, never
think why I don't work on the
Sabbath. In fact at times I even
complain about it. Now I stop to
think. "Am I justified in corn-
rilaining that on Saturday morn-
ings I have to get up at 8:30 in-
stead of sleeping till ten. simply
because I have to go to the Syna-
gogue? Am I justified in com-
plaining that I cannot ride?"
First let us take the points in
my favor when I complain.
like to sleep late is one. It is
easy to write and (10 other thing's
on the Sabbath. All other people
do.
Now let us debate the reasons
why I shouldn't complain. I go to
school five days a week, and to
Sunday School the sixth. I type,'
write and ride on all six of the
others. Is it not right that
should rest on one day of the
week? I owe reverence to the
Lord. That is a reason that far
overshadows the reasons for com-
plaining. Our ancestors have pre-
served the Sabbath for thousands
of years. Another count for my
not complaining.
Thus we have compared the
reasons for and against. The
reasons for the latter far out-
number those of the former. Thus
the Sabbath means to me, a day
hallowed to God, a (lay of rest,
and change.

to a five in the Holy Book he was
at first deeply moved to think
of the ways of God who gives and
also takes away. But when his wife
told him that his brother David
had been there in deep distress
and had the book in his hands
and, after leaving, had returned
and taken up the book again, Sam-
uel understood the whole thing.
He understood it even more
clearly when he read from the

scolded
Samuel's conscience
him severely: "How selfish you
were, Samuel, to have thought of
keeping all the ten dollars. You
should have divided it with David
in the first place, since he is as
poor as you."
As I hear from Cantor Rosen,
Samuel hurried to.David's house

mean reading without writing as
you really shouldn't write on the

The Sabbath also means to me,
a day to be thankful for what I
have. It means a day to be
thankful that I have a mother
and father and am thankful that
we live in such a grand country
where we will have freedom of

It also means that I can thank
