Beth El Sisterhood To
Hear Dr. Marquardt
The Sisterhood of Temple Beth
El will present Frederic S. Mar-
quardt, Far Eastern expert for
the Chicago Sun, at its regular
meeting, Monday, Nov. 9, at 2:00
p. m. in the Brown Chapel of the
Temple. His subject will be
"Japan's Great Gamble."
The meeting is open to Sister-
hood members only and will be
preceded by a dessert luncheon
in the Social Hall.
Before joining the staff of the
Chicago Sun when it was found-
ed in December of 1941, Mr. Mar-
quardt had worked for the Phil-
ippines Free Press and for lead-
ing American and British news
syndicates in Manila.
Mr. Marquardt knows General
McArthur personally and recently
wrote a series of articles on him
and his history-making stand on
Bataan. which has been praised
as one of the most accurate and
vivid accounts of the great fight
for the Philippines.
Having met and interviewed
most of the high ranking army
and navy officers in the Far East,
Mr. Marquardt is able to speak
with authority on the latest de-
velopments in that theatre of
war.

Philomathic Society
Plans for Future
Philomatic, on Sunday, Oct. 24,
made plans for the coming out-
side affairs, which will be held
in December.

The program of the afternoon
consisted of speeches on a vari-
ety of topics by Irwin Shulman,
Don Schiff, Stuart Sandelman,
Myron Rosenthal and Louis Sil-
verstein. Irwin Shulman was
elected best speaker of the af-
ternoon. The meeting ended after
