the celebration of Chanukah In a new land — the United States of
America. The significance of the Feast of Lights Is especially symbolic
of the traditidnal faith and courage of Jews overwhelmed by suffering
and misery. The German Jewish Children's Aid, Inc., is administered

Proclaiming a "new era of ex-
panded activities of Zionist
Youth groups" in this country,
a conference held on Sept. 28,
with the participation of repre-
sentatives of 50,000 young Zion-
ists, announced that the spring
of 1942 had been set as the time
for the convening of the First
Congress of American Zionist
Youth.
At the same sessions, called
by the National Council of Zion-
ist Youth Organizations, the
members of the executive com-
mittees of all Zionist Youth
groups in this country expressed
its solidarity with the Jewish
community in Palestine at this
time of war crisis, and an
nounced that it "stands prepared
to mobilize not only its moral
support, but its material and
physical support as well."
In another resolution, the full
support of the cooperating
groups was pledged to the Pal-
estine Pioneer Units, the Plugot
Hechalutz, now training groups
of young Jews in this country,
to be at the call for the Jewish
Agency for activity related to
defense work and post war re-
construction in Palestine, as
needed. Special notice was taken
of the vital role at this time of
the Jewish National Fund "as
the agency which buys land as
the inalienable property of the
whole Jewish people."
It is expected that many thou-
sands of young Jews will par-
ticipate in the Shekel campaign
and the preparations for the
Congress—in addition to the 50,-
000 already organized in the
Zionist Youth organizations.

Herbert Mallinson, one of the
Southwest's most beloved and de-
voted communal and philanthropic
leaders, who died suddenly two
weeks ago, the Dallas Jewish
Federation for Social Service has
voted to allot an additional fund
of $35,000 to the United Jewish
Appeal as a special memorial
grant in his honor.

Dorothy C. Kahn Joins Staff
of NRS
Dorothy C. Kahn, outstanding
leader in the social service field,
and askistant executive secretary
of the American Association of
Social Workers, will join the staff
of the National Refugee Service
as director of the family service
department, on Nov. 1, it was
announced by Albert Abraham-
son, executive director of the
agency. Miss Kahn has been
granted a leave of absence from
the American Association of So-
cial Workers to assume her new
post at NRS.
