On Friday, Dec. 26, at 8:30
p, in., a community program will
be presented at Congregation Bnai
David, Elmlhlurst and 14th, and
problems of the synagogue will
be discussed. The next commu-
nity night program will deal with
the huger local communal prob-
lems of Detroit. A third com-
munity night program in the fu-
ture will deal with national Jew-
ish problems.
On the first program presidents
of auxiliary organizations will
participate. The following will be
on the program: Joseph A. Block,
for the congregation; Mendal Slo-
bin, for Chevra Aim Yacov; Mrs.
Z. Needle, for Ladies' Auxiliary;
Mrs. Joseph acobs, for Sisterhood ;
Bernard Dosie, for Men's Club,
as well as leaders of the Young
People's Society, A. Z. A., Junior
Bnai Brith, Boy Scouts and the
Religious School.
Rabbi Joshua S. Sperka and
Cantor Abraham Singer will offi-
ciate.
A social hour, at which the
Sisterhood are hosts, will follow

Launch San Domingo Campaign
for $600,000
PITTSBURGH. (JPS)—What
LONDON. (JPS) — A coura-
geous Dutch priest who arranged
a special service in his church
for the Jewish victims of Nazi
oppression in Holland a n d
throughout the continent gave
the most recent example of Dutch
heroism and stubborness in the
fight against the German con-
queror, according to a story in
the Dutch Nationale Dagebladt.
The paper tells of the priest in
the city of Gronigen who with
his congregation prayed for the
deliverance of the Jewish people
from Nazi persecution. What
happened to the brave cleric was
not reported by the paper.
of a nation-wide campaign to
raise $600,000 for settlement of
Jews in San Domingo was
launched here at a dinner given
by Leon Falk, Jr., president of
the San Domingo Republic Set-
tlement Association, a body
founded to promote non-sectarian
colonization in Sosua and else-
where in the Dominican Repub-
lic. Pittsburgh was asked to ac-
cept a quota of $35,000.
Mr. Falk declared that the
colonization enterprise should be
regarded as a "test-tube experi-
ment" to prove that Jews could
make good colonists. James N.
Rosenberg, New York lawyer
who has been active in the proj-
ect, announced a gift of $5,000.

acts of unprecedented bravery in
air battles by Major M. Shpak,
Jewish Soviet airport Command-
er, has resulted in the Major's
receiving military distinctions for
his heroism, the Russian press
reports.

A play, "Chanukah in the Dias-
pora and Palestine," written by
Sidney Schwartz will be one of
the features. The play will be
presented in Hebrew. The He-
brew teachers, Mr. Schwartz and
Miss Alisa Gulle, are coaching the
cast that will stage it.
The observance on Sunday eve-
ning will begin with the annual
Chanukah dinner.
General chairman of the festi-
val at the Flint center is Rabbi
S. Z. Fineberg of Congregation
Beth Israel. On the committee are
Israel Sendler, Jacob Pines,
Isaac Schnider, Nathan Finkel-
stein, Sidney Schwartz, George
Dickstein, Miss Alissa Gulle,
Mrs. IIenry Schafer and Mrs.
Herman Cohen.

N. Rosenberg, New York attor-
ney, stepped down from the
presidency of the Dominican Re-
public Settlement Association of
which he had been originator in
a reshpffling of officers an-
nounced here. Leon Falk, Jr., of
Pittsburgh is the new head of
the group, of which Mr. Rosen-
berg is now chairman.
FORD SUNDAY HOUR
Much of the world's familiar
Christmas music will be presented
on the Ford Sunday Evening
Hour, which will be heard over
Station WJR next Sunday night,
between 9 and 10 o'clock. Ililda
Biltke, soprano; Felix Knight,
lyric tenor ; Anna Kaskas, con-
tralto, . and Walter Cassel, bari-
tone, will be the guest artists
and Reginald Stewart again will
conduct the Ford Symphony Or-
chestra and Chorus.
The quartet of American born
singers will be heard with the
orchestra in many well-known
Christmas works such as Holst's
"Christmas Day," "Break Forth,
0 Beauteous Heavenly Light"
from Bach's "Christmas Ora-
torio"; and a medley of songs
associated with this holiday. The
audience will join with the quar-
tet, chorus and orchestra in the
hymn, "0, Little Town of Beth-
lehem."
