NEW YORK.—(WNS) — Nine
of the 14 members of the Chris-
tian Front, on trial since April
3 charged with conspiring to
overthrow by force the United bers were entertained at a lunch-
States Government, were acquiit- eon meeting last Monday, at the
ted in Brooklyn Federal Court Shaarey Zedek, by the retiring
by a jury which had been out
124 hours and 42 minutes. The
jury was unable to agree in the
case of the five others and mis-
tria ls were declared.
A large gathering of Christian
Front s ympathizers greeted the
acquitted men with loud cheers.
Included among the Frontists
termed not-guilty was John F.
Cassidy, national head of the
anti-Semitic Christian Front.
United States Attorney Harold
M. Kennedy, refusing to com-
ment on the verdict, did not say
whether he would retry the five
men upon whom the jury could
not agree but it was considered
doubtful that a second trial
would be undertaken.

Disagree on Bishop

The jury failed to agree in the
cases of: William Gerald Bishop,
described by the Government as
the ringleader of the alleged
plot; Macklin Boettinger and
John Albert Viebrock. Captain
John T. Prout, Jr., of the 165th
Infantry, New York National
Guard, was acquitted of con-
spiracy to overthrow the Govern-
ment, but the jury disagreed
about his guilt of conspiring to
steal munitions. William H. D.
Bushnell, Jr., was acquitted of
one charge but the jury disagreed
on another count.
When the trial began on April
3, there were 17 defendants, but
one of them, Claus Gunther E•-
necke, committed suicide on
April 11, and two others, George
M. Kelly and Edward L. Walsh,
were discharged by Judge Mar-
cus B. Campbell.
The Government, through the
testimony of more than 40
agents of the Federal Bureau of
Investigation, sought to prove
that the Christian Frontists
planned to incite "Jews and Com-
munists" to riot, then seize the
Government after a counter-
revolution.
