cies swung completely over to the
Axis powers with the announce-
ment that King Carol had dis-
solved the Party of National Re-
birth and organized a new totali-
tarian "Party of the Nation,"
with anti-Semitism one of its
principal features.
The announcement that King
Carol had transformed Rumania
into a totalitarian state with him-
self as supreme head came short-
ly after the release from prison
camps of all anti-Semitic, pro-
Nazi Iron Guardists.
Rumanian Jews will not be per-
mitted to hold State jobs, accept
military positions or sit on boards
of directors of private or public
corporations. It was reliably re-
ported that all trades, industries
and professions will be national-
ized shortly.
Rumania has a Jewish popula-
tion of approximately 800,000, of
whom about 250,000 were dena-
tionalized by the Citizenship Re-
vision Law of 1938. The outright
release of the pro-Nazi Iron
Guardists led Jewish circles here
to fear the outbreak of new anti-
Semitic riots and pogroms. It was
reported also that many Iron
Guardists, who had fled to Ger-
many, are now returning to Ru-
mania.
Incensed over reports that
close to 150,000 Jews in Pal-
estine have offered their serv-
ices to the British government
in its war against Nazi Ger-
many and Fascist Italy, the of-
ficial radio in Rome has warn-
ed Palestine Jews to be mind-
ful of the fact that British
rule over the Holy Land will
soo n be ended and that Italy
will henceforth govern Pales-
tine.

The Nazi-perfected process of
liquidating Jewish shops is in
full swing in Holland, according
to reports received here. The
Mayors of Amsterdam, Rotter-
dam and The Hague have issued
decrees compelling Jewish shop
owners to take in "Aryan" man-
agers. All synagogues in Holland
have been closed. Prayer services
are permitted only between 8 and
9 o'clock every Saturday evening.
Streets bearing Jewish names will
shortly be renamed. The Jewish
Home for the Aged in Holland,
described as one of the finest in-
stitutions of its kind, has been
requisitioned by the Nazis for
military purposes.
The explosion of a bomb at a
Nazi commercial agency in New
York last week was attributed to
New York Jews by the Nazi
press, it was reported here. The
Nazi press charged that it was
"a new act of Jewish revenge
similar to that of Herschel
Grynszpan in Paris two years
ago."
Herschel Grynszpan, young Po-
lish Jew awaiting trial in Paris,
charged with the murder of a
German Embassy official in Paris
in 1938, was reported to have
been captured by Nazi troops.
One report stated that the Nazis
planned to stage a huge trial at
which Grynszpan would be tried.
It was believed that the Nazis
would use the trial as a pretext
for a new series of anti-Semitic
riots and pogroms throughout
Nazi-dominated lands.
