Jewish Chautauqua Society
Chanukah celebrations were held
in all the branches of the United
Ilebrew Schools this week.
Sunday evening Dee. 18, a Chan-
ukah entertainment and dance was
given at the leaked! Talmud Tor-
ah on l'arkside and Midland, under
the joint auspices of the Hebrew
School and the Parents' Club of the
Parkside Center affiliated with the
Talmud Torah.
This Parents' club is a recent
creation, its object being the pro-
motion of a better understanding
between parents and teachers and
their co-operation for the greater
progress if the children attending
the Talmud Torah. The officers of
the club are: Morris Cramer, pres-
ident; Isidore Kowarsky, vice-
president; Max Chafets, treasurer;
and S. Bilansky, secretary.
Children In Play.
The children of the Talmud Tor-
ah sang some Chanukah songs and
staged a Ilebrew play "Demei
Chanukah" in which Morris Weis
played the part of the grandfather,
Julia Ilarahl that of the grand-
mother, and Ethel Silverstein, Is-
rael Goldberg, Bessie Cramer,
Louis Duglas, Beryl Cramer, that
of grandchildren. Prizes were
awarded to the children who took
part in the play. Morris Weis wel-
comed the Parents' Club in Ile-
brew, in the liaise of the Talmud
Torah. Line Gainer accompanied
the singers on the piano. Jacob
V. Ariel, the principal of the school
spoke on the significance of Chanu•
kah emphasizing, the need of a true
Hebrew education for all children.
The rest of the evening was g,iv.
en over to dancing. Refreshments
were served, and a good time was
enjoyed by all.
The same evening a Chanukah
entertainment featuring playlets,
mass singing, the lighting of can-
dles, dances and declamations was
given in the Windsor Technical
High School auditorium by the pu-
pils of the B'nai Zion school, Wind-
sor branch of the United Ilebrew
schools.

The following teachers contrib-
uted towards the success of the af-
fair: S. Smullin, Mrs. S. Levine,
I3. Lerman, A. Cohen, E. Cohen.
Dr. Levin the vice-president of the
hoard of directors of the Windsor
school acted as chairman.
Wednesday evening, Dec. 21, a
very elaborate Chanukah entertain-
ment was given by the students of
the Philadelphia-Byron Talmud
Torah. The following classes par-
ticipated: The kindergarten class
with a minature playlet entitled
"('hannah V'Shivath Bonehoh."
Miss Judith l.ippitt directed it.
Miss Ruth Tiektin's class gave
a very interesting dialogue. M.
Michlin's classes sang "Sloes Zur"
and other Chanukah hymns. Miss
Chayah King prepared a Hebrew
playlet "Ilayome llorishone L'ach•
eder." Joel Cashdan's students
gave a Hebrew playlet entitled
"Ilayeled Ilamithchaleh."

Rose Pike's class featured in sev.
oral Oriental dances. Ziporah
enberg's class marched and sang
appropriate songs.
An especially elaborate play en-
titled "Rachel Emanu" was given
by Ziporah Garelick and Deborah
Levin. This play which included
several dances was coached by Na-
than Vizansky the director of the
Michigan Dancing Academy. Dur-
ing the same evening and at the
same time a Chanukah celebration
was given by the pupils of the Oak-
land avenue Talmud Torah, located
at Delmar and Westminster.

Miss Lepon's class participated
in a dialogue And mass singing.
Miss Pike assisted by Gertrude
Rosenthal and Rose Goldstein pre-
pared the kindergarten class with
a very unique pageant.
At the Six Mile road school lo-
