The opportunity to direct a message to the Jews of De-
' troit at this time is particularly apropos. It is a moment
fraught with events of a great significance to every Jew and
the New Year brings to us an increased responsibility for
the carrying out of a mission that must be near and dear
to each one of us.
No issue, no policy, no question before the Jews of to-
day stands out so clearly as the re-establishment of the
National Jewish Homeland in the land of our forbears.
The work of rebuilding Palestine is an opportunity that
every Jew should be proud of.
It has fallen to our time to see the actual realization
of what has long been but a dream. We of today, by our
united action, can make this dream a reality in every sense
of the word.
Already a new Palestine, refuge for the weary and
home for those who have had in mind for many years such
a dream of Jewry, has sprung into being. Only limited fi-
1 nances are holding back the more rapid development of
' this new Shrine of Judaism.
The national board of directors of the Keren Hayesod
looks upon this city as one of the focal points in the inter-
national organization—they look to us for whole-hearted
and generous support and of course Detroit will not be
lacking.
In this instance I refer not so much to financial support
but rather to the moral aid that the movement deserves
and needs. A quickened, livened interest on the part of
, every Jew in this great city will do much to fend off the
propaganda which is so often disseminated against the
Zionist Movement. Let us unite in a common faith; let us
join together in the great army of Zion and let each individ-
ual discharge his or her portion of the appointed task.
The national board joins with our local board in ex-
tending a Happy New Year.

The new Cadillac, throughout, bears the hall mark of suprem-
acy. Squarely in line with the most advanced tendencies, is
this new Cadillac. It is not a _hinge in Cadillac's fundamental
principles of V-type eight-cylinder design. It is, rather, a de-
velopment, a perfection of the application of those principles, due
to a quick sense of the r esponsibility
that is upon Cadillac. Cadillac, today,
as always, c,:n be trusted to maintain
its position as the standard of
the world.

kindly service.
As I watched these little patients at
play and at rest, fighting valiantly
to overcome the dangers of the blight
of tuberculosis .which overshadowed
their lives, and then studied the his-
tories of those children who have al-
ready received the full measure of
the hospital's service, the conviction
grew on me that here. indeed, in sav-
ing handicapped children for the fil-
1 ture in giving them the promise of
health and strength which had been
withheld from them, was work of the
very noblest idealism.
Forty children were discharged
from the Hofheimer Building during
the last fiscal year of the hospital.
As each left, another child was admit-
ted immediately, for there is a long
I waiting list of boys and girls from
all part's of the country who need
the hospital' care. All of the children
admitted are predisposed to tubercu-
lesis; some few have tuberculosis in-
fections of bones and joints. Of the
40 children discharged during the
year, some had been in the hospital
for more than two years. For others
three or four months of the health-
giving treatment was sufficient to
bring up to normal their resistive
powers. The average length of stay
for each child was ten and one-half
months. The children ranged in age
from 5 to II years. The weight
gain for the group was 422 pounds.
The response of the children to the
hospital's service is almost immedi-
ate. Practically all of the children
show weight gains within the first
week of their residence in the Hof-
heimer Building; their emaciated lit-
