A Bank's Earning Power

Is Limited

Contrary to the general belief
of the average depositor, a
State Bank may not accept all
that it is possible to earn on its
loans. The Michigan Banking
Laws says:

"No bank shall take or receive more than the rate
of interest allowed by law in advance on its loans
and discounts." It does allow, however, a mini-
mum charge of 50c as discount or Interest on small
transaction.
