MAIN, Supt. ■•■ • Baron Edmond de Rothschild, head of the famous family of European financiers, has proposed as a means of solving the problem of providing for the 25.000 Jewish war orphans in Eastern Galicia, that they be sent to Pales- tine, where they will have an opportunity to grow up with the country, in an atmosphere which will permit of their freest development. In making the proposal, Baron Rothschild promised to give his fullest support to carrying through the project as soon as conditions permitted. • • • An exceptional honor has been shown to the memory of one of the former conspicuous leaders of the Jewish community of St. Louis whose death occurred a few years ago. Mr. William Stix was widely known as an active and indefatigable worker in the cause of Jewish charity and education. In respect to his work and memory one of the modern public schools of St. Loni ,., which is to he built at Euclid and Duncan avenues, will be named The William Stix School. • • • In the annual election of officers of the Chamber of Commerce of Pitts- burgh, l'a., held recently, Marcus Rauh, first vice-president of the organiza- tion, was chosen president for the year. The newly elected president has been a director of the Chamber of Commerce for 15 years. Ile was a mem- ber of the civic commission appointed by Mayor George W. Guthrie and was a director of the Merchants' A Manufacturers Association before that organ- ization merged with the Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Rauh is a vice-presi- dent of the Boy Scout organization in Pittsburgh and is a director of the Rodef Shalom congregation. For years he has been prominently identified with Jewish organizations and charities. • • • Dr. Stanton A. Friedberg, of the faculty of Rush Medical College and on the staff of the Presbyterian Hospital, of Chicago, died recently, follow- ing an operation for mastoiditis. He was associate professor of laryngology and one of seven Chicago physicians appointed to the American Larygolog- ical Association. Ile was also distinguished for his work in bronchoecopy. He was secretary of the Society of Medical Research of Chicago. Dr. Friedberg was born December I, 1875, in Chicago, and after graduating from the University of Michigan completed his medical course at Rush Medical College and schools in Vienna and Germany During the war lie enlisted at the first call for physicians and served eighteen months in the country and France.
