THE JEWISH CHRONICLE

DETROIT

tion, with assets of over $90,000,000, be-
ing keenly alive to what it considers its
patriotic duty in these days of public
stress, has extended liberal treatment
to its policyholders who have been, or
may be, called to defend the nation's
honor on land or sea. It has adopted
the following resolution : "Resolved.
that any existing restrictions as to oc-
cupation, residence, travel, or military
or naval service, be and are hereby waiv-
ed upon all outstanding policies."
The company has given fair and time-
ly warning, however, that while men
not already enlisted or contemplating en-
listing may insure today, without sign-
ing any abridging war clause, conditions
are so uncertain its it may be neces-
sary to change ts attitude in this re-
gard at any time.
Mr. Reese added that the events of
days or even hours may make the adop-
tion of a war clause by his company im-
perative. Conditions are being watched
and reviewed daily. He advises quick
action for men seeking insurance with-
out a war clause or an extra premium.

must he had and will be had because the
people not only have the desire for
home ownership but also the money with
which to negotiate financing of the build-
ing."
DETROIT IS LEADER
Statistics show that 95 per cent of
the electrical furnaces in use are
manufactured in Detroit.

INDUSTRIAL SITES ARE IN
DEMAND.
The Detroit Board of Commerce re-
ports a greater inquiry from outside
sources concerning the industrial possi-
bilities in Detroit than ever before. For
some time, however, certain forms of
such property have been at a premium.
This applies especially to sites adjoining
transportation facilities. With the plac-
ing in effect of the Pennsylvania-Detroit
railroad's terminal service in Detroit
great relief will be afforded this condi-
tion, it is thought.
Centrally located realty has been more
active in the last four to six months
than in any similar period of time in
many years. Transactions involving
many million dollars of capital have
been closed, the deals in many instances
opening the way for the erection of large
store and office buildings and in one
case providing a site for a great hotel.

CAMPAIGN TO FINANCE HOME-
BUILDERS IS ON.
Since last fall, a great many new
companies have been organized for the
express purpose of providing financial
aid to persons desiring to build. Sev-
eral large building corporations have
entered the local field and every effort
has been exerted to bring home con-
truction up to the maximum established
by limitation of building materials sup-
ply and transportation facilities.
The principal explanation of the pres-
ent activity is that a large proportion
of the city's population desire homes
and that the industrial and domestic
prosperity of the city provides the pros-
pective home-owner with the necessary
funds to bring the desire to realization
regardless of national conditions. As
one leading realtor puts it, "Homes
