C3N REVIEW

materials to be used in reconstruction
of important buildings in cities in the
vicinity of Verdun, the Argonne and
the heights of the Meuse.
The danger of a cessation of build-
ing activities does not lie so much in
the impression that prices are too
high as it does in
i an attempt to carry
the economy idea to harmful lengths.
Nothing could be more injurious than
indiscriminate delaying of plans for
ltttilding. . This would create an in-
dustrial situation that would be far-
reaching in its effects.

WOOD NOVELTIES FOR AD-
VERTISING.

Specializing in wooden novelties
for advertising purposes, the Detroit
Innovation company, which occupies
the second floor at 5, 7 and 9 East
Fort street, is doing much to uphold
the city's reputation as a center of the
wood working industry.
All forms of wood carving for art
work are included in the activities of
the company, fine hand carving being
one of its specialties.
The company is also a wholesale
manufacturer of wooden art lamps,
both of the pedestal and so-called
piano lamp varieties, and the smaller
table lamps.
F. 11. Hall is manager of the com-
pany and knows all the ins and outs
of the manufacturing and selling ends
of the business.

LUMBER DEALERS' EXHIBIT
OPENED TUESDAY.

On Tuesday, May 15, the Detroit
Lumber Dealers' association had a
formal opening of its permanent
building exhibit and lumber service
department on the fourth floor of the
Penobscot building. The exhibit is
the result of co-operation by associa-
tion members in placing before the
public in general and the prospective
home builder in particular, all the
data and information needful to those
who lack experience in building.
All kinds of lumber for exterior
and interior use, in every conceivable
variety of paint and finish, are on
exhibition.
Progressive methods of the De-
troit Lumber Dealers' association are
well expressed by this enterprise.
Lumber, although one of the materi-
als in most common use in construc-
tion work, remains technically un-
familiar to most people. The asso-
ciation's display aims to acquaint any-

one seeking information, with the
various uses to which lumber may
be put, as well as the places where
its use would not he expedient. The
policy of the exhibit is not one of
knocking any other material but of
boosting lumber as a most inexpen-
sive and practical, as well as a most
artistic and adaptable building ma-
terial.
