th' arm of Sisler, a south-tpawed

more space than is usual, was given in
the account of the game Our ama-
teur dopester ran across the article,
and from what followed, a longed for
opportunity was at last discovered.
But to us it seems the opportunity
was bungled. Or shall we call it a
needless sacrifice? For the sarcasm
and motive of the writer is so apparent
that a "wayfaring man, though he be
a fool, would not be led astray." Why
all this really unnecessary rhetoric?
Was it because the writer feared to
face the southpaw of the "sharp curve":
in the alumni game of '13? or did he
merely wish to get back for beidg
"showed up" last spring? or was it
only because he wanted to fill space?
The article convinced none that Sis-
ler had turned "pro." It was too in-
consistent. It says that Sisler turns
"pro" in a "brush" league and in the
same sentence speaks of his having
turned down a flattering offer from tlhe
Yankees. Sounds reasonable doesn't
it? Then this sensational writer takes,
this phenom down to a little sand lot
where most of his neighbors never
saw a professional team, and has him
turn "pro."
Had such an article been written by
a rival of ours we might not have been
surprised; but to have come ,fromn
such a source we cannot understand.
Sisler remains as much an amateur
as the author of the erroneous article
-and that is sone amateur.
