THEATRE NOTES

The speech department will re-
stage the hit of last season's play-
bill, "Love's Labor's Lost," this
week at the Lydia Mendelssohn
Theatre.
Prof. William P. Halstead of the
speech department, the director,
has made the play, which is rather
dull reading, into a production
which sparkles on the stage. The
last performances, which were held
on Michigras weekend, proved suc-
cessful despite all the other events
going on in town at the same time.
A "transparency" theme, to
make the light comedy seem at
home on the stage, is used in the
current production. Costumes of
net over tights appear transparent
on the stage and a transparent
curtain of blue fish net opens to
various shapes throughout the pro-
duction.
Other innovations add to the
production. The play is staged for
Queen Elizabeth, who attends each
performance in the box to the left
of the stage. Trees, made of rope
ladders, are used so that actors
