Positions in the University Sym-
phony Orchestra are now open to
all qualified students, according to
Lawrence Hurst, '59M, manager,
The orchestra, whose member-
ship will be more than 110 persons
this year, is offered for credit. It
may be used for degree credits
for those who may later change
their curriculum..
Auditions for membership may
be made with Prof. Joseph Blatt,
conductor, In Rm. 214, Hill Audi-
torium.
This season five concerts and
two operas have been scheduled by
the orchestra. The first one, fea-
turing Berlioz's Symphony Fan-
tastique will be Nov. 21 in Hill
Auditorium.
Each semester the orchestra ac-.
companies the University Choir in
one major Choral-Orchestral work,
such as Requiem by Berlioz and
The Passion According to St. Mat-
thew by Bach.
It also performs opera like The
Magic Flute or La Boheme with
the Speech and Opera depart-
ments each semester.
