Today is Valentine's Day, of
course.
Like a miniature Christmas sea-
son, the last-minute rush was on
yesterday. Bookstqres were crowd-
ed with students buying cards for
long-forgotten aunts, florists were
running out of red tinsel, and
heart-shaped boxes of candy were
fast disappearing.

'CONTEMPORARY' CARD
. . ."I'm ape over you"
general confusion. Many students
confessed they had only come in
to read and laugh, not to buy.
Contemporary cards, doing away
with old-fashioned poetics, carry
such touching sentiments as "I'm
ape over you," or "Playing the
field? Im a good catch." Many
are frankly comic; others are
blushingly frank (as was proven
by the many blushes).
Comedy in Cards
The occasional high comedy led
many to contemplate using them
as Jokes. One girl stood giggling
over a card for a full five minutes,"
finally made up her mind to send
it to another girl.
The card? It read "Complexes,
complexes. Have I got complexes.{
Good thing for rye there are only#
two sexes-yours and mine, Valen-
tine."
Elsewhere on campus. girls linej
up at dormitory mail boxes long
before mail delivery, waiting for
cards. Telephone calls bring
screams, and one enterprising co-
ed even put up a mock sign adver-
tising space for rent in the Engine
Arch.
For today, at least, hearts are
trump.
