Folk-dancing is not as easy as it
looks!
That's what members of
Deutscher Verein, the German
club, discovered at their last meet-
ing when they were taught Ger-
man and other European dances
by Juana de Laban, associate
supervisor of physical education.
AMONG the dances learned by
the group were three medieval
square dances, an Italian taran-
tella and three different types of
waltzes, all of them typical of the
steps once danced in Europe. \
The purpose of Deutscher
Verein is to offer its members as
many various ways to perfect
their German-speaking ability
as possible, according to Mildred
Dickerman, '50, publicity chair-
man of the club.

"For this reason we attempt to
hold a different type of program
for every meeting."
AT THE NEXT meeting two
members will present a round
table discussion on the political
situation in Germany today. A
Christmas party and an evening of
caroling in German are also on the
calendar of events.
Last year, in commemoration
of Goethe Bicentennial the club
co-sponsored a presentation of
the Gretchen Tragedy from
Faust, in which some of its
members participated. It has
also sponsored a number of Ger-
man films.
Faculty advisor of the group is
Alfred Neumann.
