Coeds Bring Feminine Note
To Big Ten Senior Meeting
Held Last Week at Purdue
Injecting Michigan femininity
into a practically stag circle,
Donna De Harde and Josephine
Henderson represented the Uni-
versity last week at the Big Ten
Senior Class Presidents' meeting
held in Purdue.
As the treasurer and secretary,
respectively, of the Senior Class,
the Misses De Harde and Hender-
son took the place of president
Wally Teninga at the second an-
nual meeting of the council.
DELEGATES SENT from each
of the Big Ten universities, were
feted by the Purdue group Fri-
day and Saturday beginning with
a welcome to incoming trains.
Dinner at the residences was
provided and a trip to the con-
cert completed the events on
Friday which was mainly set
aside for a get-together. Satur-
day's schedule included two dis-
cussion groups, one on alumni
4'elations arousing class spirit
and methods of electing class
oficers at the various schools.
The other discusion group con-
sidered senior class functions,
sources of income and publicity.
CONTRIBUTIONS in the way
of comments were accepted at
both metings with representatives
of all schools present at each.
A football game, banquet and
other social events rounded out
the schedule with an evening
meeting in discusion of the par-
ticular problems of each uni-
versity officially closing the
conference.
Guests were invited to sta y over
for the Sunday events, however,
with plans to be made for the
coming conferences. The council
not only provides an opportunity
for free exchange of ideas among
the senior class representatives,
but also is an occasion for closer
relationships among the under-
Craduates of the schools.
Villagers To Meet
Willow Village University Club
wil hold its regular monthly meet-
ing at 8 p.m. tomorrow evening at
the Community Center.
The Village Fellowship Choir
will present a short program fol-
lowed by refreshments and a so-
cial hour.

Slide Rule Ball To Transport
Guests to 'Good Old Days'

Hillel

Slates

k

A revival of the "good old days"
wil be the theme of the Engineers'
Slide Rule Ball which is to be
held from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Satur-
day in th Masonic Temple Ball-
room.
Engineers and their dates will
step into an atmosphere which
hearkens back to the days when
the engineers and lawyers began
their traditional feud.
False fronts of old time drug
stores, meat markets and saloons
-each bearing a name strikingly
similar to that of a faculty mem-
ber-will be set up around the
room. The bandstand will be deco-
rated with "Gay Nineties" array.
Entertainment also will recall
the days and ways of those unfor-
getable times. A barber shop quar-
tet will perform during the inter-
mission old time review.
Music for the dance will be pro-
vided by Paul LaVoie and his or-
chestra. Although LaVoie rarely
plays for dances, he and his or-
chestra are probably one of the
most widely heard bands in the
nation, since LaVoie has been mu-
sic director of radio station WJR
for the past ten years.
Because of complaints of over-
crowding which have been re-
ceived from those who attended
the dance last year, tickets this
year will be limited to a much
smaller number. Sales are being
conducted on the diagonal and at
the engine arch.
This year's dance will mark the
twenty first anniversary of the
first Slide Rule Ball which was
held in 1928. Back in those days

rivalry between the engineers and
lawyers was very strong, and at
times became rather violent -
when the lawyers stole the en-
gineers prized slide rule, and the
victims retaliated by setting off
several asphixiation bombs in the
Lawyers' Club.

Open House
Hillel will hold its second open
house in honor of graduate stu-
dents from 7:30 to 11 p.m. today
at the Foundation.
The mixer is designed to bring
together students at the graduate
level, who have similar interests,
for an evening of informal enter-
tainment. Records will be avail-
able to provide music for dancing.
Card tables will be set up for
those who prefer bridge, gin rum-
my or canasta.
Graduates who are seeking an
evening of pure relaxation and
chatting will find plenty of com-
fortable chairs and couches in
Hillel's living room. Refreshments
will be served.
Hillel first inaugurated the grad
mixer on their social schedule a
few weeks ago.
