Sherwood's 'Lincoln in Illinois' With Education

Students Steer Clear of Parking Lots

State High School Musicians
To Compete at Hill Today

Students are steering clear of
those "Reserved for Faculty
Members Only" signs these days.
according to John Gwin of the Of-
fice of Student Affairs.
Gwin, who is in charge of auto-
mobile regulations, praised stu-
dents for their cooperation in
keeping their cars out of the Uni-
versity's parking lots this semes-
ter.
"FIFTEEN OR 20 students a
day used to be ticketed for parking
Scientists Find
N.ewPotent
Allergy Drugr
DETROIT-(/)-A new drug for
hay fever, asthma and other al-
lergies is 20 times more potent
than present ones, two scientists
said today.
It can be taken in far smaller
doses, and it protects against an
allergic attack three times longer
than other drugs, they reported.
It is also much less likely to cause
undesired effects like sleepiness,
nausea or dizziness, which the
anti-allergic drugs bring on in
some people.
THE DRUG, named chloro-tri-
meton, was announced by Drs.
Richard F. Tislow and Annette La-
Belle of the Schering Corp.,
Bloomfield, N.J. They described it
to the federation of American so-
cieties for experimental biology.
It is being tested now on hu-
mans and is expected to be
availalble to the public soon,
through doctor's prescriptions,
Dr. Tislow said.
Anti-allergic drugs act by com-
bating a substance, histamine, re-
leased in the blood by the allergic
reaction.
The tests showed that small
doses are needed to overcome the
attack of bronchial asthma, hay
fever, hives or other allergies.

their cars in the reserved lots.
3ut now only a few students a day
ire guilty of the practice."
That ticketing may have
something to do with improved
student cooperation, Gwin said.
A buck for the first misdemean-
or, and $2 for the second is
slapped on students caught with
their automobiles where they
shouldn't be.
Hired checkers maze the rounds
of reserved parking lots on and off
campus several times a day. When
they find a car that does not bear
the proper identification -a park-
ing tag-theybestow a ticket on
its windshield and its owner
winds up paying his fine at Gwin's
office.

AT LEAST one student thought
he had the checking system beat.
He discovered that the checker
made the rounds of a certain park-
ing lot at 9 a.m., and didn't re-
turn till afternoon.
So this scholar would leave his
automobile there at 9:30, return
for it at noon, safe in the assur-
ance that no one would be the
wiser--or so he thought.
But he was wrong. One day
when he returned to pick up his
car at noon only to find a ticket
waiting for him. In the process of
shifting his schedule of appear-
ances, the checker had caught the
culprit.

"Abe Lincoln in Illinois," Rob-
ert Sherwood's Pulitzer Prize win-
ning play, will be presented by the
speech department at 8 p.m., April
28 to 30 in Lydia Mendelssohn
Theatre,
CED Seeks Ok
The application for recognition
of the Committee To End Dis-
crimination will be considered by
the Student Affairs Committee
Tuesday, CED chairman Leon
Rechtman announced yesterday.
He also revealed that Prof. Har-
old Guetzkow of the Psychology
department would serve as faculty
advisor to the organization, which
now comprises 22 campus groups.

Twelve episodes in Lincoln's life
are depicted in the play, requiring
an elaborate yet workable piece of
staging. Prof. William P. Ilalstead
will direct the production and Jack
Bender, Grad., is designing the
settings.
GREETED WITH rave notices
from critics when it was produced
in New York in 1938, the play has
since become a classic of the
American theatre.
Lincoln's career is portrayed
from the time he was a postmas-
ter in Springfield, Illinois, to
his inauguration in Washington.
Students will be given a special
price rate for the Thursday night
and Saturday matinee perform-
ances. Tickets go on sale Monday.
