The Trimrose Tath
Ann Arbor celebrated the last week-end before the holidays in grand
style . . . the sophomores broke all traditions and held their class dance
before vacation and the Law Club and many fraternities held dances . . .
it was quite a fitting closing to the pre-holiday festivities . . . so now to
tell you a little about it .. .
At The Soph Prom.. ..
Most important was the Sonh Prom . . . the ballroom was decorated
with Christmas trees, just dozens of little ones around the orchestra with
large ones on each side of the door and down at the end of the room . . . Jean
Keinath and George Cosper were there and Marian Baxter and Chuck
Coe. . . the sophomores really turned out en masse, saw Marcia Connell and
Bob Windsor and Betty Young and Mar Rogers.. . and of course the upper-
classmen always crash the party . . .Betty Ronal and "Bonth" were among
the non-sophomore students who were having a grand time . .. Jean Ber-
tram and LaVerne Burns were dancing when we noticed them . . . also caught
glimpses of Mary Lavan and Henry Homes,, Lura Spencer and Jack Kerr.
and Anne Mitchell and Bob Daily ...
If anyone should ask me who had the best time at the Soph Prom, I thik
I would answer "Mr. Irving Codd, '79' who designed the Union . . . he
seemed to enjoy the grand march tremendously. .. some of the other people
at the dance were Blanche Tobin and Walter Pleiss, who attended the Theta
Xi dinner first, Betty Lindegrin and Bob Loge, Florence Rogers and Alex
Neill, Betsy Crawford and Marte Collins, and Muriel Hess and Frank South-
on ...Incidentally, didn't you think that "Pat" Conger made a perfeci
Santa Claus with his Merry Christmas greetings to everyone?
The S.A.E. dance was well populated Friday night . .. climbing up the
stairs to the dance floor on third we saw Jim Huguet and Carolyn Donovin
Bill Wreford and Muriel Hasard, Tom Jensen and Mary Jane Field, and
Bob Emmet and Frances Henderson . . . It is a long climb up the wooden
hill there, but the dance floor was worth it . . . the boys have remodeled
the dorm with fancy indirect lighting and everything . . . Gathered around
the fireplace were Bill Small and Bette Meyer, Bob Vandenberg and Vivian
Decker and Scotty Watt and June Baron . .. Saw a crowd looking at the
scrap book on the table near the:Christmas tree ... that book is really worth
looking at . . . there are some wonderful sketches of the S.A.E. houseparties
back in the J-Hon days from '90 on .. .
Alpha Delt House Party...
Wandering down State Street Saturday night the Alpha Delt house at-
tracted attenticn. . . getting inside we realized that the party was worth a bit
of attention. Janet Miller . .. out from Detroit for the house party . . . was
- dancing with LeRoy Haskell. Homer Lathrop was with Louise Walker . .
Louise, by the way, is from Muskegon . . . During the evening the whole
crowd stood in a huge circle, siging all sorts of songs . . . noticed Dick
Oliver leading the singing ... Betty Shaffer was standing next to Dick. Nancy
Cassidy and Jim Talcott were singing lustily . . . Dodie Day and Russ Cole
were in the circle, too. Alice McCutcheon and Chuck Bowen . .. Jo King and
Reed Hartz were conspiring in a corner . . . just what the subject under
discussion was is a current problem.
Other people about were Dick Hershey . . . Charlotte Rueger . . . Ed
D'Aprix and Sue Orr. . . Wally Hook and Marjorie Williams ... Wayne White
and Madeliene Appel . .. Kay Shields and Swim-Swim DeLancey . . . Sally
Jane Brown and Bill Warner . . . Alice Zing and Charlie Mayne.
The Phi Gam's had reserved a long table on the edge of the floor at the
League Saturday night and it seemed that their table became a general
meeting place for everyone . ... we noticed Jean Rheinfrank and Bill Jewett
Betty Spangler and John McFate . . . Marge Merker and Bert Coffee .. .
Jane Weisen and Jim ]acCrackei.. . . Dorothy Curtis and Tom Kinkead-..
and Joan Wentz and Bob Elliot. Jean and Betty, being roommates, seemed
to be having a wonderful time throwing things at one another . . . everything
from napkins to pickles.
Playing 'Rabbit'*.. .
The party was in full swing at the Alpha Chi house . . . Dorothy Oostdyk
and Joe Storkey were already leaving the dance floor to go downstairs for
some punch . . . Down there Maxiu.e Blaess with Mic McCollum and Dotty
Welch with Tom Breen were making themselves comfortable on the floor ...
Martha Thompson and Donald Bronson, Janet Ladd and Frank Howard were
also enjoying the refreshments. M. K. Adams, Phil Bower and their dates
inveigled several other couples to play "rabbit" with them in the middle of
the dance floor . . . and the fun came when those who were caught pre-
sented Eve Niles with a head of lettuce to make the game realistic .. . Doris
Misner and Willis Plager and Jane Mougey and Jim Hollinshed were much
amused at the incident.. . Some of the alumnae were back for the dance ...
saw Marge Kress dancing with Jack Wilson . . . and later on Dotty Ander-
son dropped in with Wadie Paige . . they came down from Grand Rapids ...
Delta Upsilon openod their house Friday to give a super Christmas For-
mal. Billie Suffrin :ame out from Detroit to attend the dance with Art
Warner. Hope Hartwig and Rodger Longley droppcd in a for a few minutes
before going on to the Saph Prom. Very Gray was there with Bill Wilson
.. . looking very nice in a white moire formal trimmed with a wide red band
around the bottom. Dancing past the candid camera, we noticed Mary Alice
Krieger and Harriso.n Church . .. Barbara Talcott and Morris Steere ... Far-
ley Ullrich and Allen Andrews ... and Betty Thompson and Bob Johnson.
Lawyers'Christmas Party...
As usual the Law Club party was perfect. . , it always gives one a strange
feeling to walk into the huge dining room in the club on the night of a
dance . . . Saturday it looked decidedly like an English Christmas Card
with the red and green spotlights on the stained glass windows.,, Bud Prince

and Betty Sherk, Graf Sharpe and Harriet Shackleton, looked stunning as
usual, Bea DeVine and Kevin Kennedy, and Pete Boder chairman of the
dance were all having punch . . and pretty good punch it was, a mixture
of orange ice and gingeralc . . . In the lounge dancing were Barbara Heath
and John Mead and Stek MacCallum and Harriet Heath, also saw Chuck
Moon and Miriam Robertson . . . Ty Carlisle and Marcia Connell were stand-
ing in front of the orchestra talking to Ann Timmons, back for the week-
end, and Brak Shaw . . . John Moran and Ellen Thompson were doing some
very clever steps when the music started again and John Starr and Louise
Paine, another last year's student back for the dance, joined them on the
floor .
Gathered in front of the Christmas tree out in the dining room were
June Hora and Jack Bigelow and Hal Klute and Marg Mackintosh . . . Mar-
garet Curry and Joe Taylor wandered out there during the intermission, as
did Margaret Guest and Dan Cook . . . Some of the others at the dance
were Barbara Wykes and Clif Christinson, Helen Ilamp and Sam Stolorow.
Whitey Wistert and Mrs. Wistert, Jane Lord and Bob Keck and Marion
Yoder and Virginia Wyatt ..

The talks are open, free of charge,
to anyone who wishes to attend. No
attendance of freshman women is to
be taken.
Virginia Eaglesfield, '38, and Helen

For Graduates
The Olympic Games will be the
subject of a talk to be given by
Prof. Elmer D. Mitchell of the phys-
ical education department at the
luncheon for graduate students which
will be held tomorrow in the Russian

dents of which he was in charge. The
group landed in France July 3 and
spent about eight weeks in Europe,
visiting France, Germany, Austria,
Hugary, Czechoslavakia, Denmark,
Sweden and England.
Each member of the party studied
the phases of European life which
were in line with his special interests,
some students concentrating in art,
others in politics and others in edu-
cation. Each received six hours of
graduate credit for the trip.
About 35 students are expected to
attend the meeting, which is another
in the weekly series. The meetings
will be continued after the Christmas
holidays.
