Account of Michigan's 6-0 Defeat of AMtinn

The following play by play
story of Michigan's 6 to o defeat
of Minnesota yesterday was writ-
ten for Daily readers by Sheldon
C. Fullerton, sports editor.
First Quarter
Michigan won the toss and chos
to receive the kickoff. Manders
kicked off to Hewitt, who was stop-
ped on Michigan's 34-yard .line.
Hudson was halted after a gain of
one yard. Stein broke through to
tackle Fay for a five-yard loss. H-
ton punted to- Somers,-.who- was
ta ed by Morrison on Minnesota's

for three yards. Somers agined a
yard when he attempted to circle
ends ; ewitt and Hozer making. the
tacle. Manders got three atguard.
Munn punted to Michigan's 2h-
yard line where it was downed by
Gag, Gppher tackle.
Hewitt carried the ball outside
for a gain of one yar6 Heston ran
into a stne wall after a two-yard

was tackled by Petoskey and Auer
on Minnesota's 38-yard line, after

Manders was stopped dead when
DoC Morrison hit him at the line.
Somers was also dropped at the
line after a gain of one yard. Again
Vforrison made the tackle. Munn
punted to Michigan's 34-yard line
where it was downed by Haas..The
play was called back and Michigan
was penalized 15 yards for unneces-
sary roughing of the kicker, giving
Minnesota a first down on Michi-
gan's 35-yard line. Manders was
tackled by Petoskey for an eight-
yard loss. Munn crashed theS line
for a yard. Munn punted to Fay,
who fumbled and recovered on
Michigan's 19-yard- line.
Hewitt gained three yards at cen-
ter. Heston kicked to Somers, who
carried the ball back six yards to
the Minnesota 30-yard line before
being downed. Manders crashed
center for two, Morrison and, Auer
tackling hin. Haas was downed by
Hewitt after losing a yard at end.
Munn. kicked to Fay, who ran the
ball kback eight yards to Michigan's
43-yard line.-

College Tomorrow Afternoon
in Alpha Nu RIoin.
Meeting its second opponent .,of
the season, the Varsity negative de-
bating team will uphold its side of
the Conference question against
Detroit City college at 3 o'clock to-
morrow afternoon in the Alpha Nu
room, fourth floor, Angell hall.
Only the second speaker for
Michigan has been decided upon by
Coach James H. McBurney who
chose Charles A. Rogers, '34, for
that position. The first speaker will
be either Julius C. Bernstein, '32, or
Jacob I. Weissman, '34; third speak-
er either Wilbert L. Hindman, '33,
or Allen V. Lowenstein, '34, will de-

bate.
Although the debate is open to
the public it is to be held before
two classes of argumentation and
debating.
A return debate with Detroit City
college, with the Michigan's affirm-
ative team debating, will be held
Wednesday in Detroit. David W.
Cannon, grad., Frederick A. Herr-
mann, grad., and Nathan Levy,
'34L, will represent M i c h i g an
against the Detroit school.

yard loss at end. Minnesota took

pass on Michigan's 43-yard line.

hit center for a yard. Heston kick-
ed outside on Minnesota's 31-yardl

Champlin was run out of bounds'
by Heston for no gain. LaJeunesse
stopped Champlin for no gain.
Munn kicked to Michigan's 39-yard
line where it was downed by Wells.
Hudson battered his way for
four yards through center. Man-
dens downed Heston after the
Michigan back had gone through
for two yards. Heston kicked to,
Champlin, who ran the ball back
brilliantly 50 yards through the en-~
tire Michigan team, before beirig.

and Krezowski went in for Teeter.
Ubl passed to Haas, who dropped
the ball after receiving the heave.
Wells recovered for Minnesota, giv-
ing the Gophers a six-yard gain.
Manders went through foV five
yards and a first down.
Manders made three at guard.'
Ubl's short pass was incomplete.
The ball was on Michigan's 33-yard.
line, third down and seven yards
to go. A long pass, Ubl to Krezow-
ski, was incomplete and Minnesota
was penalized five yards for two
incomplete tosses in one set of
downs, Ubl passed to Griffith, who
was downed by Petoskey after a
five-yard gain. Michigan took time
out. It was Michigan's ball on downs
on its own 34-yard line.
Hudson was, stopped at center for
no gain. Hewitt reeled off two yards
at tackle lsefore being stopped by
Manders. and Ubl. Heston kicked to
Minensota's 30-yard line, where the
ball was downed by Williamson.

Heston, in an attempt to circle
end, gained a yard. Hudson plough-
ed through the line for two yards,
Munn getting the tackle. A long
pass, Hewitt to Hudson, was incom-
plete just in front of the Gopher
goal line. Heston kicked outside on
Minnesota's 11-yard line.r
Somers was hit by Morrison and
Auer for no gain. Somers was again
stopped at the line of scrimmage,
Samuels and Hozer getting the
tackle. Morrison downed Somers
after a gain of two yards at tackle.
Score at end of first quarter:
Michigan 6, Minnesota 0.
Second Quarter
Munn punted to Hudson, who was
tackled by Haas on Minnesota's 49-
yard line after a return of 10 yards.
Hewitt was downed at the line of
scrimmage. Stein broke through to
down Fay for a five-yard loss. Time
out for Michigan. Heston, on a
fake punt play, went through
guard for 11 yards. Heston kicked
to Somers, who was tackled by
Hozer and Auer on Minnesota's 14-
yard line.
Munn punted outside on Michi-
gan's 45-yard line. Hewitt was
spilled by Munn for a; four-yard
loss. Hewitt ploughed through cen-
ter for four yards. Heston kicked
to Minnesota's 27-yard line, where
it was downed by Samuels.
Munn was halted by Hewitt and

after a six-yard gain. Again Hewitt
hit the line, this time for two yards.
Michigan was penalized five yards
for having its backfield -in motion.
Hewitt shot through the line for
seven yards, but he stumbled and
fell before making it a first down.
Heston kicked to the Michigan 37-
yard line, where the ball wasI
downed by Williamson. A lateral
pass, Somers to Robinson, was
smeared for a five-yard loss. A
beautiful double pass, Munn to
Robinson to Somers, was good for
15 yards and a. first down on Mich-
igan's 27-yard line. Michigan called
time out.
Somers was dragged down after
a three-yard gain at end, LaJeu-
nesse and Petoskey making the
tackle. A short pass, Somers to
Manders, gained three yards. Mich-
igan again called time out. Koski
replaced Dennerly at right guard
for Minnesota. Heston intercepted
Somers' pass on Michigan's 13-yard
line.
Hewitt gained two yards at
tackle. Fay went through tackle
for 10 yards and a first down on
Michigan's 25'yard line. Hewitt hit
the line for five more yards, as the
half ended.
Score at half: Michigan 6, Min-
nesota 0.
Third Quarter
Petoskey kicked off to Somers,
who returned the ball 45 yards to
the Michigan 49-yard line. Man-
ders gained one-yard at tackle.
Somers was smeared by Hewitt for
no gain. Morrison and Hewitt stood

By the score of 63 to 37 the Uni-
versity of Michigan Chess and
Checker club defeated the Jackson
Checker club Friday evening at the
Union. The high scorer of the meet,
was Dr. Andros Gulde of the Uni-
versity club with 18 points out of'
a possible 20.;
Michigan players' scores were:
Gulde, won 8, lost 0, drew 2, 18,
points; Harter, won 5, lost 2, drew
3, 13 points; Ross, won 5, lost 3,
drew 2, 12 points; Paton, won 3,

There will be an organization meet-
ing of the Society of Industrial
Engineers Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 7:30
p. m., in Room 306 of the Union.
All industrial students and others
interested in some phase of indus-
trial control are urged to attend,
as it is hoped to be able to map out
a program for the year, as well as
elect the necessary officers.
