Sharing the Conference lead with
the unbeaten Boilermakers with
two victories and no defeats
credited to them, the Wolverine
cagemen will meet one of the most
formidable aggregations in the Big
Ten when they invade the Iowa
field house to do battle with Coach
Sam Barry's Hawkeye combination.
Like the Michigan five, the
Iowans boast an unmarred record

having handed the Ohio State
quintet 34-26 lacing in their first
Big Ten encounter. The Wolves
have scored wins over the Wildcats
and the Badgers by decisive counts.
Starting the season with a com-
plete team of veteran performers,
Coach Barry has discovered a trio
of promising sophomores who have
won themselves regular berths. The
Hawks displayed a lot of power
against the Buckeyes using a fast
breaking short pass attack featured
by accurate ball handling and
shooting.
Twogood At Forward
At center the Iowa mentor has
Captain 'Rags' Wilcox, a veteran
performer of two year's experience,
while Forrest Twogood, another
two-year man, is holding down one,
of the forward positions. Two-
good is rated as the sharpshooter i
of the Iowa team, being creditedt
with 11 points in the Ohio State
game. He captained the Black and
Gold team a year ago.
Sophomore stars make up the,
remainder of Barry's entry in the
Big Ten race. Mike Farroh, capable
blocking halfback of the 1928 gridI
team, occupies one guard berthl
with Virgil David as his runningt
mate, while Irving Nelson teams
with Twogood at forward. .
The return of Robert Spradling,
another sharpshooter who has beenI
out of the lineup for some time
with an injured ankle, has greatlyt
enhanced the Hawkeye hopes.-
Spradling is a brother of the for-
mer Purdue star and captain whot
lead the high scorers of the Big
Ten, one season.l
Barry Plans Defense
Having scouted the Wolverines
thoroughly in both the Northwest-,
ern and the Wisconsin games,,
Coach Barry is well aware of the
strength of the Maize and Blue
combination and has been hard at
work all week on a defense that
will be able to stop big Joe Trus-t

Iowa's attack, featuring quick!
short passes and sudden pivots,
will meet a' severe test when Michi-
gan's defense clamps down. Michi-
gan held non-conference oppo-
nents to an average of 19 points
per game, and restricted its first1
two Big Ten rivals to a 20 1-2 point
average. Both Northwestern and
Wisconsin could only score seven'
field goals apiece, so tight was
1VMichigan's guarding.
Drills this week have indicated
that Iowa's starting lineup will be
the same as against Ohio State.
Forrest Twogood, the former cap-
tain who plays forward, has de-
veloped as a scorer, while retaining
his ability as passer and guard.
NEW YORK-John J. McGraw,
Giant manager, has not yet select-I
ed the personnel of the 1929 train-
ing squad. '

HOCKEY TEAM TO
PLAY MARQUETTE
Facing one of its strongest foes
on a rather strenuous sport sched-
uled, the Wolverine hockey team is
playing the Marquette puckmen
'this, week end who were recently
defeated by Wisconsin in a close
game. The first game of the dou-
ble header was played last night
in the Coliseum while the second
encounter will take place tonight
on the same rink.
All that is known about the
strength of the invaders is gleamed
from the fact that they fell victims
to the Badger hockey team by a
close 3-1 score during the holidays.
Confidence is rather high in the
Maize and Blue camp that they will
be able to repeat the trick turned
by Wisconsin and at least break
even in the series. The return of
Fisher to the lineup of the Michi-
gan squad has bolstered their
chances considerably.
