leave tomorrow for Chicago where
he will attend a meeting of foresters
from all over the United States who
have beenecalled in conference by
the National Chamber of Commerce.
Dean Dana; will also attend a meet-
ing of the executive council of the
Society of American Foresters while
in Chicago. Nov. 17 and 18 he will at-
tend the conference called by the
Chambers of Commerce.
Among the organizations in this'
section to which invitations have
been extended are the Northern Hem-
lock and" Hardwood association and
the Northern White Cedar associa-
tions. The Chicago conference, the
first of its kind to be called, will be
largely a meeting of business men
and the discussions will be directed
chiefly to the consideration of meas-
ures necessary to develop tree grow-
ing as a commercial enterprise. It
will be diviled into three divisions,
each of which will considet an im-
portant, aspect of the general prob-
lem.
The first division will take up the
progress of forestry in various sec-;
tions of the country. The second divi-
slon will consider the possibilities of
forestry-the products it will yield.
the land it will bring to a productive
basis, and the contributions it will
make to the wealth of the communi-
ties dependent upon the forest in-
(dustries. The third section will take
up the most formidable obstacles
with which forestry is* immediately
confronted-forest protection, forest
fire insurance, forest taxatin, and
forest research.
