Varsity Four-Mile Testy To Make Bi1l
For Permanaent1Posessini
Of Mike Masoni Trophy
J'
ENTEiR THREE RELAYS
Ten' of the 19 Ii ackm n lwi will
leave this mor ning for the Illiois
relays to be rmi off Saturday at Ulr-
bana have never parteipatedi in. Var-
city competition at Michigan, and only
two of the men ol the three Wolver-
ine relay teams have been on a relay
quartet before. Besides Coach Stephen
J. Farrell, the team will be accompani-
edl by Manager Willis Topper, '27, and
a trainer. The mnen will arrive in time
to attend the Michigan lliois baket-
ball game tonight
'rne men who have never been in a
university track inet previously are
Cooper, J1oie,-Wuerfel, M~lon roe, Lo-
mnont, ,Tones, Bat on, Leonard, Beatsj
and Pfluke. The veterans who willj
return to competitilm Saturday are
Capt. Northrop, Hester, Lasser, Mun-
ger, Mueller, Oheser, Hornberger,
Iskenderian, api Prout.
The field which the green Wolver-
ine squad wil face includes the best
athletes of the Middle West both in
the 4elayp and the individual events.
Of the four relays Michigan will not,
be represented in tl1t Medley events~
Scontenting itself with entries in thej
mile, two mile, and four mile races.
The mile teanli of 0Olheiser, Mueller,
Barton and Leonard will find in Il-
lionois and Iowa the strongest kind;
of competition. Iowa's sar quartetl
was favored to winl until the Iuli
beat themt by ihes ini their dual meet
last Saturday in 3 mn. 29 3-5 sec.
The two mile relay race is a mays-
tery with no one venturing to pick a
winner. As matters now stand it
appears to lbe a toss ill) with seeral
teams having one or two good halfj
milers. Notre Danme, Ames, Wiscon-
sin, Ohio State, and Illinois all look
to have p)ossiilities.
Beeause of the Alike Mason trophy,
inuch stress has been laid on the four
-vile relay. Michigan, with two legs
ol the trophy, will make a stronig lid
to, gain permanent possession by a
victory Saturday Illinois, noted for
its four mile team has won the trophy
once since it was'irst offered in 1924.
Individual stars who will'be at the
Relays includle such men as McGinnis
of Wisconsin, Droegemueler and
Lewis of Northwestern, Boyles and
Nelson of Iowa, Burg of Chicago,
Spence of Detroit City college, and
Lyon of Illinois in addition to les-
ter and Nothrop of Michigan and
Alderman and Grim of Michigan State.
