Flivvering will soon become as com-
mon in the air as on the laM, if the
statement of the Ford Motor com-
pany regarding the development of an
air cooled, eight cylinder, 200 horse
power motor for airplanes, is con-
sidered signficant.
The design which will contain all!
the economical characteristics of the
Ford automobile motor is now being
completed at the company's labora-
tory in Dearborn. All parts of this
new power plant, which weighs only
two pounds to a horse power, will be'
accessible and interchangeable as
inexpensive.
It is the intention of the Fords to
sell none of the new motors sepa-
rately, but to place them directly into
airplanes. Some of the first to be
manufactured will be used to equip
the Stout all metal planes now
operated between Detroit, Chicago l
and Cleveland with three of these en-
gines.
