Travertine marble, imported from;
Ita-y, will be used to finish the lobby
of the new Literary building. The
stone is hard and semi-crystalline andl
s mainly of volcanic origin. It is
found under water due to the fact that
leposits 'of lime .are essential to form
it, and hence it is cut with great dif-
ficulty. The stone for the lobby was
' mined under the Mediterranean seaI
and it is essentially the same as the
marble that was used to finish the in-
terior of the Detroit public library.
The central portion of .the'front of
the building has not had .the stone'
work done due to the, fact that there,
has been some delay in procuring the
granite for this section of the build-
ing. Word has recently been receiv-
ed at the offices of the University
building program that this granite is
on the road and that this work will
soon be started.
The cornice is being installed and
has been practically finished on thel
back 'of the building.
Steel for Power loirnse
Work is started on the erection, of
the structural steel framework for
brick super-structure.
High pressure steam connections
have been installed in the new heat
tunnel extending from the new powet
house to the new Hospital anid are
jready for use.
Work on the addition to Waterman
gymnasium is progressing rapidly and
brick layers are erecting the walls on
the rear structure. The roof that cov-
ered the showers room has been raz-
ed and the wreckage cleared away
leaving the ceiling of the shower
rooms as the top of the structure. The
walls have already been constructed
above this elevation.
- Two large lights have arrived for'
the new Engineering building. These
lights were the gift of the Engineer-
ing class of 1925 and they will be
placed on either side of the main en-
trance on suitable pillars which' are
a part of the lights. The main en-
trance is composed of three doors and
it is planned to place a light on ei-
ther side of the central door.
Ticket applications for the Soph
Prom to be held March 14 at the Un-
ion, must be returned today in order
to be considered. No applications will
be received after tonight. They may
be delivered at the desk in the Union
lobby or mailed to the Prom commit-
tee in care of the Union.
Acceptances will be mailed the first
of next week. The applications will
be considered in the order in whicl.
they were received. Attention being
given to the number of years the ap-
plicant has been on the campus an
his hours of credit.
