that surpass even the fondest of ex-

that basketball teams are consistently
inconsistent in this regard and Mich-

Play Well at Ohio
Gratifying and most surrising was
Phone 94-F1 Michigan's overwhelming 38 to 17 vie-
tory against Ohio State on Saturday
320 E. Liberty St night. The team worked like a well
polished machine, getting the ball
down the floor with regularity and
precision that was amazing. The five
man defense, used that night, drew in
so close on the Buckeye basketeers,
that the Ohioans cantonsider themsel-
ves fortunate in caging the five goals
with which they are credited. Espe-
cilycommendable Was the shooting
of the Wolverines that evening. Ely,
star, negotiating eight goals through-
out the fray, while Kipke and Miller,
each caged four. The .close guarding
of Cappon and Capt. Bud Rea on the
defense is also worthy of mention. The
exhibition as a whole was more than
pleasin to all concerned.
The result of Monday night's game
was not quite so pleasing. After
trouncing the Ohio State five the Wol-
verines were doped to brush the In-
diana five aside without an undue
amount of trouble. But the adverse
15 to 14 score showed otherwise. The
defense of the Michigan team was up
to par, 'but their offensive work was
poor, that is excluding the exhibition of
Bill Miller. Mller was the only re-
deeming light of the game, registering
every one of the Wolverine's 14 points,
caging four field goals and gathering in
six .out of ten fouls.. The other men
were decidely off color, missing shot
after shot under the basket, and thus,
their opportunity to annex the contest.
The game was close from the very
start. Michigan held the lead at the
end of the first half, but their failure

testing -- The foul shooting of Sanford for In-
diana was no little factor in Michigan's
world's -,downfall. The Hoosier was successful
in nine out of ten free throws, a. ex-
ceptional record, and for the fourth
time this season Michigan tasted defeat

Practically no let up was given the
track squad by Coach Steve Farrell
during the examination period. With
the exception of the two days that
the J-Hop decorations were up the
athletes were working out regularly.
The reason for this is that next Satur-
day a dual meet with Chicago is
scheduled at Waterman gymnasium
and it is necessary that all the men
be in condition. Even though the
Maroons are not powerful Steve
wants his men to. show up at their
best and has kept them at work.
Of course with exams it was im-
possible to accomplish as much as
ordinarily, but now that they are over
the men are fairly burning up the
boards over in the gymnasium. Even'
before the baseball cage is down'
the distance runners are working
up on the track and even the dash
men are warming up. As soon as

pit is opened and the banging of the
dash men on the gym floor is heard.
The coach is busy and has no time for
any one except his proteges and to
them he is giving his best.
The last two years Chicago has been
overwhelmed by the Michigan track-
sters. In 1920 at Ferry field the score
was 87 to 48 and Michigan won nine
first places, while Chicago garnered
most of her points in the mile, mak-
ing a slam in that event. Again last
year a dual meet was held outdoors
and again Michigan repeated, but
this time even greater damage was
inflicted for while Carl Johnson and
his teammates were scoring 108 pointa
the visitors only made 27, 11 out
of a possible 15 firsts were taken by
the Wolverines, and of Chicago's
points half of them were made by
Hall.
This year the Maroons have al-
ready had two meets, one with
Northwestern and another with Laf-
ayette and in this they have the edge
for this is the first meet of the year,
for Michigan. They are reputed to be
strong in the hurdles and Brickman
has been showing up well in the
quarter mile event. The shot put is
handled by Redmon, who is the cap-
tain of the team, but it is doubtful it
he will be able to outheave Van Or-
den.
