Uniforms were issued to practical-
ly all members of the R. 0. T. C. be-
fore the parade onFriday and from
now on will be seen daily on the camp-
us. Instructions have been issued
stating that the uniforms shall be worn
at all meetings of R. 0. T. C. classes,
while it is permissable that they be
worn at all times at the option of the
individual. As the different periods of
instruction of the R. 0. T. C. extend
throughout the day, it is probable that
members will wear them the greater
part of the time.
Regular Army Issue
The uniforms given out, which are
as the regular army issue, consist of
suit coast, cap, trousers, wrapped put-
tees, flannel shirt, and cap and collar
ornaments. Campaign hats have not
been issued but if owned by students
may be worn during bad weather. The
chevrons for non-commissioned officers
and sleeve insignia for all students
have not yet arrived but are expected
this month. Cadet officers will prob-
ably equip themselves with Sam Brown
belts, leather puttees, shoulder Insig-
nia and officers' ornaments. The dis-
tinguishing insignia for cadet officers
to be worn on the shoulder will be as

tain; 1 silver diamond, major; 2 dia-
monds, lieutenant colonel; 3 diamonds,
colonel.
The uniforms remain the property
of the government and, if no change
in them is made, are supposed to last
two years, at which time they will be
turned in. In case of any student
leaving the University they will be
turned in at once. It is specified that
they must at all times be kept strictly
neat and clean, under a penalty of
having to turn them in and attend
classes in civilian clothes if this is not
done.
0. D. Is Only Temporary
The present uniform is only a tem-
porary expedient, however, and as soon
as an allotment can be obtained from
1 he War Department for the purpose
of purchasing the specially designed
uniform of the R. O. T. C. they will be
turned in and the. special uniforms
adopted. These are made of an at-
tractive forestry green whipcord ma-
terial, with long trousers and coat
with roll collar and large bellows
pockets cut along the lines of the
English officers' coats.
PROF. MYERS AND PROF.
WHIPPLE INVESTIGATE
STATE REFORM SCHOOL
Following revelation of the shock-
ing conditions in existence at the State
reform school at Lansing, Prof. George
E. Myers of the education department,
left last night for that city to direct a
detailed investigation.
Last week several officers, includ-
ing the superintendent of the school,
Joseph M. Frost, were removed from
office at the instigation of Governor
Groesbeck. It was found that boys
of the school were suffering from too
scanty clothing, and that corrupt dis-
cipline and a despicable state of mor-
ality existed in the school.
Professor Myers was appointed to
complete investigations, immediately
following these discoveries.' He is as-
sisted by Dr. Guy M. Whipple, profes-
sor of experimental education. Dr.
Whipple is expected to return this
afternoon from Lansing where he has
been reviewing conditions.
Professor Myers expects to com-
plete his work the middle part of next
week. His report will be made public
